And so - after six weeks away from the boards and far too much to catch up on - where do I start? What have been the highlights? the must reads? the controversies? the laughs?

My own first thoughts?

  • I'm really not that bothered about Tiger being back at #1

  • I beat a 4 hcapper 7/6 in 1st round club handiicap k/o. He played OK - so off 12 does that make me a naughty boy?

Anyway over to you guys and gals - what's worth catching up on?

OK - so prettty much as I guessed. I am however disappointed that there have not been any deep philosophical debates over the Easter period that I might resurrect.

Also re 5-iron 195yds. Well on Tuesday night in my dog license of a victory, I hit a 5-iron maye 155 yds from the light rough uphill against a fairly stiff cold breeze to a heavily bunkered, split-level raised green with flag on back top level. Hit it to eight feet I did. But no way can I claim to have done it deliberately. Yes I thought about the shot, I took my stance, and I swung the club - and by some miracle (not particularly of my own doing though of my own design) I caught it perfectly and the ball sailed beautifully away with a nice high draw, pitched on the top level and it stopped. Can I play that shot? I'd say not really because I might only do it once in maybe 10+ attempts. But that's another debate. Just becuase I have it a certain shot does that mean I can play it?

Never mind the shot how was your pre-shot routine?

Pre-shot routine was pretty much what I'm trying to get absolutely set. I think my thinking was good though. I was 5 up at the time and wouldn't normally have taken it on - but there would never be a better opportunity in a match situation. Been playing pretty well of late. Off yellows - to or under handicap in winter league matches and in a recen bogey comp - after being 4 down after 4 I pulled my thinking together and beat the course 1 up.

So feeling good for the coming year. I'm really trying to keep my game 'in the shot' and trying to completely cut out projecting about my golf. And that is not only projecting what I might score over a round after I started - but what I might score for a hole - and even how any shot I am about to play might end up. Really focus on the here and now of playing every shot once I've decided what shot I want to play. Forget about what the outcome might be - the outcome will be what it will be (see straight away I am becoming philosophical - been reading Tommy Armour's book)

You forgot the old "you'd av been better spending it on lessons" every time some one buys a new club.

And so no new 'should GPS and DMDs be allowed?' debate - oh I am disappointed in everyone - so I assumed that whilst I've been away that the body of opinion would have moved to my point of view and they shold be banned from club competitions (wishful musing)

And I'm guessing the belly/pivot putting debate is settled - the USPGA is wrong and that it is unanimously agreed here that it is the correct decision to ban such putters andf the technique - roll on 2016.

But I also guess that there are some things that will never go away despite all of our best wishes and hopes :)
