I'm glad she's acknowledged the importance of winning a major but it still pains me that he's got a knighthood. Great player but an ar$e of a person. picking his lovechold still for the ryder cup still gets me!

6 Majors, most points haul in Ryder Cup matches, most succesful British golfer of the modern era and his lovechild wild card was the best performer in the RC last year. Remember, it's the captains pick, not the publics. On that decision he was right.

He deserves it.
Congratulations Sir Nick.
;)

Just remember, we may not have liked him as a person, but as a golfer there was none better when he was at his peak.

bobmac,

Used the term we as a collective term, many people disliked him.

I agree with you completely regarding the work he has done for Junior golf. He used his name and high profile to get people to buy into it and the results have been spectacular.

Shame we don't have any of out top players around at the moment with the hunger he had for success.

Just remember, we ? may not have liked him as a person,

Excuse me?
I personally DO like him and the stuff he has done for junior golf is fantastic.

Exactly Bob.

And, I expect it's the junior golf stuff that went a long way to him getting the gong. The 6 majors will obviously count, but they were a while ago and if it was just them as the reason, he'd have got it ages ago.

He got it for golf and I am happy for him. He has dedicated over 30 years to the great game and has achieved so much. It pains me when footy players who have only just hit their mid 20's get these honours heaped on them due to public preassure.

Nick has done it all and for that he has my utmost respect.

I have to say I'm a huge fan. I've recounted on here several times the day he and Sandy Lyle pitched up at Royal Wimbledon (next door to my club, Wimbledon Common) and I was able to walk round with just them, their caddies and about a dozen other people. No ropes or marshalls and the chance to chat and listen to him. Open, honest and witty and more than happy to pass on a few tips.

Fast forward several decades and when I was doing a charity auction I wrote to him and he was generous in providing loads of signed gear (hats, pictures etc).

The Faldo junior series was a landmark initiative certainly in the UK and now worldwide to get the cream of junior golf at an early age and develop and advise as they progressed. Dougherty and the like are testament to its success.

OK his Ryder Cup captaincy wasn't to everyones taste but the team only lost to a US side in blistering form in the singles and I don't think Jacklin, Gallagher, Langer, Woosie or any other captain would have been able to stop that particular juggernaut.

I'd say when you add his playing record to the equation too its a fully justified reward. Personally I'm very happy for him

About time too as far as I'm concerned!
He's the No 1 British Golfer - ever.
He deserves it for the Junior stuff alone.
Why do people have to pick at him - just because you don't like him doesn't mean he doesn't deserve an honour. I don't particularly like Goeff Banks (Fashion) but he does a lot of charity work as well as high-profiling British Fashion and deserves his award - as do they all.

Who's next for a Knighthood?

Sir Woosie? Sir Sandy? Sir Rory??????

Well done Sir Nick, was the only golfer I could have named on tele as a kid! Only one I ever watched!

Well deserved.

Nick Faldo is the most important, and the best english golfer ever, no question (IMO the best British golfer also), anyone who disagrees needs to take that fat chip off there shoulder and wake up. Arise Sir Nick about time to.

As for the Poulter comment he was our leading points scorer and the only one of the European team who looked like he cared - so sit down you dumb ****

I like him, I think he deserves it.
When I think of the kind of people who get knighthoods with great regularity (like Actors!!! woo hooo, just pretend you are something you are not all your life and get a knighthood) I think he certainly deserves it as much as anyone if not more than some.

You cant knock his CV and even his RC captaincy, going up against a previously trounced American team on their turf with a petulent team who failed to perform as a team and still only just losing, I think was a worthy effort, especially with all the conflict around him, thats what real leaders are made from. like him or not he deserves a 'Sir' as much as anyone. Personally I dont believe in knighthoods, MBE's or OBE's, but thats another topic.

haha no they're both egotistical morons who go well together. The ryder cup was a shambles. an OBE at best or maybe just a well done card from clintons

Gets it for his golfing achievments and rightly so.....if it was awards for personality he'd be lucky to get awarded a GCSE.

Dont think they award them for personality, GCSE is a low level educational qualification, but you know that, dont you? :D :D
