Sir Billy Connolly

Great to see the Big Yin becoming Sir Big Yin, a legend in his own lifetime.

Arise Sir Bill...

Indeed.

Funniest man I've ever seen.

Can only agree with that, best live comedian I have ever seen. Even now, whilst the Parkinson's may have slowed him down it hasn't beaten him; the "Spot the Symptoms" bit of the High Horse tour was absolutely hilarious.

Long overdue and very well deserved.

Agreed.

Should have had it 20 years ago, one of the all time great storytellers.

No, the all time great storyteller.

My folks did not allow me or my brother to buy his Solo Concert album when it came out in 1974 - mostly because of all the wee swearies - but also as he did a piece called The Crucifixion - over which there was a LOT of fuss back then...(see Pastor Jack Glass rants).

But my brother secretly bought it as we'd heard it and knew was dead funny. Eventually we could play it with mum and dad in the house - and eventually they too were in stitches - because they knew the people of Glasgow inside out - and he told us of us - warts, humour, compassion, drunkenness, violence and all.

I agree that Connolly is a great comedian but I don't see why the rich and privileged should get these awards. I believe they should go to the people that dedicate their lives to helping others for no financial gain. Charity workers, aid workers, fundraisers etc

Fair play to Sir Billy for what he has done but what about all the 10's/100's/1000's of others that take and give little or nothing back? Doesn't change the fact that there are a huge amount of people that do the same or more to help others but are never recognised.

Looks like I might be in the minority. Would put him alongside Ricky Gervais/David Brent in the fact that I just don't think he's that funny.

I kind of agree with you about the 'not finding him that funny' bit. I've liked some of his stuff I've seen but personally have never found it a cut above others. But then again I do find Ricky Gervais very funny most of the time. Might be an age thing possibly as I admittedly have not seen a massive amount of his work as I was so busy trying to be trendy by liking the latest alternative comedians in the 80s.

I saw him live about 20 years. Hugely excited about the night, didn't laugh once. Gutted. I'm sure it was just an off night but it was a huge disappointment.
