Single figure handicap at last - well not exactly!

I'm off 12 at the moment but after 38 points last week in our Friday swindle, causing me to play in it off 11 today, and then 40 points today it looks like I could be off 8 next week!

I'm looking forward to see how it feels to play off single figures even if it's not for real! How different from your club handicap do you play?

In the swindles I play plus the two societies

Sat Swindle - 1
Sun Swindle that play every now and then - 2
Midweek Swindle - Scratch but been down to +2
Mariners - ended the year on 2
Other society ended the year on 1

I once had two blinding swindle rounds on the trot - so had to play off 6 less than handicap for three weeks. Spent most of the time just wandering round the course looking confused...

Don't think it has improved my game as such - it's always the same mentality , go round in as low as I can on that day.

An unofficial group within a golf club that organise their own non-qualifying competitions.

Our swindle is a singles game, team game and often a pairs too - all in one round

I guess it had a temporary effect of concentrating the mind. Playing to make up the six point difference sort of made you try harder. A poor game, with a six shot reduction on top, puts you right into "walk of shame" territory. That one was able to keep scores (at the time) in the 30's was pleasing but probably due to just having a bit of a purple patch. (If only it were so still ...)

I recall a comment just after the morning draw along lines of "Fing ell, he's on a 6, we want a re-draw ..."

I played off my club handicap a few weeks ago, scored less than 30 points so got an extra stroke
