We all strive to shoot lower scores and some of us spend hours at the range working on our game but there is a much simpler way. Here are a few tips that will knock shots off your scores.....GUARANTEED!
1) Selective memory loss
How many times have you chipped out sideways from behind a tree or taken 2 (or even 3) shots to get out of a bunker? Only count the good shots, after all that is what this game is all about.....hitting good shots.
2) Learn how to hit a Pinnacle out of the rough when you teed off with a Titleist.
Do you understand what I'm getting at here? Yes.....speed up play, hit the first ball you find in the rough, the guys behind you will appreciate what you are doing to speed up their round.
3) Perfect the 'leather wedge'
We are fast approaching the time of year when the ground will start getting damp and soggy, there will be more divots on the course. Nobody wants to see you digging craters trying to hit your wedge out of an old divot, making the course condition worse and possibly leading to a shank which then slows down play while you look for your ball. A gentle nudge out of the divot when your partners are walking to their balls will solve this problem.
4) Learn to use your woods properly.
Not your driver or 3 wood but that little piece of wood you mark your scores down with......yes the humble pencil. Keeping track of all the shots you've hit on a hole is mentally taxing and leads to poor performance in other parts of your game. Plus counting them all up as you stand on the green slows down play. Round down to the nearest acceptable number, generally a 3, 4 or 5.
There you go folks, a few simple tips to lower scores.......enjoy
