Looking for some feedback from folks who have played Silvermere recently. One of the guys I play with regularly was asking we should enter a team in their Senior Team Open.

The last time I played there was some 20 years ago and as far as I can remember, the first 6 or 7 holes and the last 2 were tree lined but the others were "in a field".

Any comments on course condition, speed of greens, playability etc would be most welcome.

last time i played it was last june i think ,i thought it was quite a decent course ,cant say i felt i was hitting in a field though. some pretty holes and great burgers to be had for afterwards.

Pretty decent course overall, very good if you consider it being a public pay & play. The first hole the other side of the road is a bit silly but I wouldn't say those holes are necessarily bad or in a field as such. They're almost typical parkland.

Can't comment on condition as I last played the course 5 years ago, often pop in the shop though

The place is a total money-maker and the hell with anything else. They will ram the course full of four balls and don't care about pace of play at all. Shame because it was decent once but there is no way I'd ever choose to play there.

Not been there for a few years but I agree with your description. Also it used to get really busy and really slow. If it were me, I'd avoid it

Not played it for a while although they (Silvermere) have allegedly spent a lot of money on the course. It remains a cash cow though and gets very busy which I think has always had a detrimental effect on the state of the greens. However for an OPen I'd hope they'd put some real effort in to present it as well as they can and pace of play shouldn't be a factor as I assume they will have blocked booked times (and be competent golfers)

Nice intention - just don't expect it to actually happen ;)

Hoebridge is exactly the same. Played an open event a few years ago when a big storm came over with lightning around. Everyone took cover only for a couple of marshals to come out within 15 minutes to tell everyone to carry on playing as they had tee times booked behind for the rest of the day. That went down well and the "discussions" in the clubhouse afterwards were not pleasant towards to the organsiers.

I quite like the layout of Silvermere, as has been mentioned the first 6 and last 2 are very nice and across the road has improved over time.

The problem is they squeeze as many on as possible so generally your waiting on every shot and five hour rounds are the minimum, and then with so much traffic they struggle to keep the course in a decent condition, it can be dreadful some times but other times is ok, it is a definate hit and miss for me, with a society and a bit of fun it does the job but playing there on a regular basis would drive me insane.

I played there 2 weeks ago as I had a 2 for 1 voucher from a recent custom fit. Played Sunday midday, £15 each.

First good weekend weather of the year, played in polo shirts, and the course was absolutely dead! Nobody behind us, and we waited behind a 2 ball in a buggy(!!) a couple of times but they let us through on the 8th and we never saw anyone again. We were round in 3hrs 30 and one of my mates is ridiculously slow.

The course was in far better condition than when I had most recently played it 2 years ago. Greens were fantastic for a pay and play - much better than some some private members clubs I've played at in the last couple of months. Holes I really enjoy are the front 9 - I think 7,8 and 9 are underrated. Bit samey for 10 through 16, but they're improving them with new bunkering etc. 17 and 18 are great finishing holes.

I think with the rise of sites like tee off times, nomads aren't stuck to just playing at the local muni as there are some great deals on weekend afternoons as good courses, which has maybe lightened the footfall slightly on Silvermere and Hoebridge, which are just too expensive and too slow usually. Or maybe we just got lucky on the day!
