Played with a couple of mates in the monthly medal today and on the 5th one of them duffs a drive along the ground to about 160 yards from the green. I hit a lovely drive right up the middle to about 100 yards. So for the second shot Alan thins a 7 iron along the ground that stopped about a foot short of the green. I hit a lovely 60* wedge in down the slope, it bounces short, then on the green and runs out the back next to a tree!
Just goes to show a good shot doesn't always get good results!

Isn't there a saying about there being no pictures on a scorecard. It doesn't matter how well you are playing, what matters is how well you are scoring.

exactly  our 3rd today my tee shot sat in tree roots:( chopped out 10 yds, 3rd shot just short of the green, sank a 30 foot putt for par:eek:

Andy.
Sorry to burst your bubble but a 60 degree wedge shot that lands short of the green is not really a good shot.

It is when the ground is concrete hard on a down slope to a green that runs away from you. You have to come up short and let it run on, going for at the green ends up OOB, in a pond or, if your lucky, running up a pathway.

15th Par 4 (SI 2) off the yellows, so its 444 yards. Hooked my drive into the rough at about 170 yards then tried a "Hollywood" second with my 5 wood and duck hooked further left it into the trees. Luckily the trees were staked saplings, so free relief with a local rule and took a drop. Still not a great lie in the semi and still about 185 to the pin, but thought what the hell and took out my useless Hybrid/Rescue and actually hit it quite reasonably for once. Pitched between two bunkers and rolled onto the green about 2 to 3 feet from the hole for a tap in par - robbed the course for once. :D

3rd Par 4 (SI 4) 414 yards again off the yellows, it has a ditch at about 250 yards which is in play for the longer hitters. I use the driver as I never hit it that far or straight ever! A couple of months ago when the grass was shorter and the fairways were baked, to my amazement I did actually time one and it went dead straight - superb drive. Unfortunately the ball bounced ridiculously hard off the fairway and you guessed it into the ditch, I walked off with a 6 or 7 I think.

The 8th got him back for laughing at the other chap hitting one into the water. Into the deep stuff under the trees, didn't get out, didn't get out, didn't get out, STILL didn't get out and finally walked off with a 10. I parred that hole.

Totally agree with the scorecard thing. Never gives a true picture. Played Killymoon as a 4 ball. On the first hole (par 5) 3 of us walked of with par.

Me: Hooked into rough on left under a tree, duffed 2nd and 3rd about 50 yards in total. 4th to side of green and a chip in.
Brother. Cut the corner with his drive. 2nd through the back. 3rd hit the flag and then landed on a slope taking it away from the hole. 2 putts from there.
Mate: First OB, 3rd from tee perfect and also cut the corner. 4th into the green about 30feet from the hole. 1 putt.
