Going to be in the north of england fairly soon and thinking of a game of golf with the old man. I see these two are the most high profile courses in the area... anyone any thoughts as to which one would be best?

The Silloth website says £50 for a round. Is that the going rate or any tee times websites good for getting it a bit cheaper? Would probably be happy to pay £50 though we'll be looking to play it on a Monday or Tues.

Slaley Hall can be had for about £30 on a Monday or Tuesday.

Played 14 at Slowly hall in 3.5 hours which were good, but due to them loading the course with slow corporate 4 balls, I would head over to Siloth, going on all I've heard. Had to go early as we had a lift booked.

the hunting course at slaley is awsome.
but give them both a miss and play seaton carew, you wont regret it.

Played Silloth about a dozen times and can highly recommend it.

Had one of my best ever rounds there which always influences your decision as to whether you like a course. I stood on the 18th tee one under par gross and then had a double bogey. Ahhhhh!

As the poster above says Brampton is also well worth a visit. It's a beautiful fell land course with some fantastic views.

Just had my Captain's trip to Slayley Hall. Great for a trip but for pure golf I'd go for Silloth every time, one of the best links courses anywhere. Another vote for Carlisle too, a fantastic parkland course.

Ain't played either but I'd give seaton Carew a visit as it's a quality links course. Also you have Rockliffe hall abit further south which is worth a visit.

Played Seaton in March - great course, love the wind up there

Playing Slayley in 3 weeks so I'll give a comparison :D

Im playing Seaton this weekend, forecast at the minute says only 9mph wind - for some reason though by the weekend I bet it's more like 30mph . Is a quality course though, im looking forward to it, especially if my fli hi 2 iron from jammydodger arrives in time :D
