Hi,

A few of us are going down to Shrewsbury next Saturday night to a mates, on the ale.

5 are going to play golf in the day, 2 with handicaps 6 and 11, 3 are 28+ handicappers.

We are looking for somewhere close to Shrewsbury, or north of it. Somewhere where it is nice for the low handicappers, but not too hard for the chompers. A price of between £15 and £ 35 I'd say. some are available on teetimes.co.uk but don't know how the courses are.

Church Stretton is one option, but wondering any advice for others.

Church Stretton is a Heathland course on a mountain. It starts with three par 3's that take you up the hill. The first must be the hardest par 3 I have ever played.

Hawkstone Park isn't a million miles away.

2 beautiful courses.

I'd pay to play there, but will it be too hard for the 28+ h/cappers? On teetimes.co.uk it was £39.

It looks like we are playing Arscott on the Saturday, as the lad in Shrewsbury has just joined it. We need somewhere just for the Sunday now.

Is Arscott any good - I thought he meant Ascot, but he'd gone all posh since leaving Liverpool.:)

Church stretton is short, but looks tonnes of fun.

Not at all. We have a few 28+ lads in the work society who love playing there.

No more difficult than any other course at their level IMHO..

I grew up in Shrewsbury, learnt to play at meole brace, which is pay and play, 12 hole course. It's a decent standard, the 28 handicappers will find it testing, lower ones might find it a bit easy.

Its in Shrewsbury itself so might be handy depending on where you're staying.

Hawkestone is good though, couple of testing courses. Hill valley is close by, another decent test and nice location.
