Should Other Countries Boycott US TV Pictures?

Slightly inflamatory question here but The Masters coverage has shown what a bum deal the rest of the world get when the US are put in charge of covering a sporting event. As far as much of the coverage was concerned, non US golfers may as well not have existed save for the eventual winner. The coverage was sporadic and often interupted for gaps where the US want another ad break, heaven forbid that they leave the coverage going for the rest of the world to see.

It is not just golf either. I believe that at the last Olympics in the US, their TV coverage was heavily criticised for failing to show any events where the US stood no chance of a medal.

I am sure that the global broadcasting networks pay a fairly tidy some to receive the US pictures and as such should, I feel, get better value for money. Certainly if the international rights were not selling, the US networks may have go rethink their attitude and provide more even coverage for a global market.

They all partnered Tiger Woods at some point over the 3 days at Augusta and you can probably count on one hand the amount of shots you saw from them during the week. Its really unfair I think.

I think we should all boycott Sky too - all they do is show Man U, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool games - I want to watch Derby v Fulham.....oh no I don't coz it's sh1t...

I actually want to know how Poulter got so much coverage (I heard he got a hole in one - did he??!) when all he seemed to do was shank it on Saturday...

Presumably to see if he shanked it again! I felt sick watching that on Saturday - any time Poulter had an iron in his hand after 9 & 10 in round 3, that was nerve wracking viewing.

Derby Bolton as Manure and gooners are dull affairs.

Edit to say: a little of both top flight clubs and lower teams to balance it out, the US coverage was shocking and all Tiger even though at one point he was out of the top ten.

Agreed american coverage should over here is awful however its worse over in the states-
Had the mis fortune on hols a few years ago to tune in to the USPGA coverage from Whistling straits-saw a few shots generally from Wooods or Mickleson, 5 mins of ads, a bit of chat, more ads, back for a few golf shots, a look at the leaderboard, more ads etc etc. Gave up after 30 mins.

John Daly says in his autobiography he can't watch american golf coverage,i'm with him on that.He also says while it's not top of his list he can watch coverage while in europe because he actually gets to see some shots.(not quotes just the jist of what he said can't be bothered to get the book to find out exactly)

there were times yesterday when I had this sinking feeling that the reason they were hanging around on the tees so much was waiting for the director to signal the end of the ad break.

:D :D

The bits of 'regular' USPGA golf ive seen are just a putt-fest. You could easily be forgiven for thinking that the game starts from the fringe out there.

The US producers had to widen their remit on this occasion but it's the exception rather than the rule.

Quite liked the Amen corner as it was a novelty but would have worked best as a picture-in-picture.

Can we not just have BBCi show the whole shooting match from 3.30pm each day please? Is it really too much to ask?

(and ffs get some british vision mixers in there - I don't think the Americans have a clue what colour balance or contrast is let alone how to spell it or indeed manage it- so many schoolboy errors!)

billyg, the pictures from Augusta have always been more colourful than any othe broadcast. I wonder if this is the Yankers using a bit of media propoganda to show the world the grass IS greener in the 'states'.

What must the American viewers have thought of The Open at Hoylake in 2006 when we had the hot summer and the course was brown?

I really hate all the interview's. Give the guys a break, they just walk off the course and some ass4ole stick's a mic in their faces. I'd someday love to see someone grab the mic and slap the interviewer with it. Opps this is golf we're meant to be gentlemen. Can you imagine walking off after 3 putting and some guy stick the mic in your face. I know what I'd tell him. (yeah I really enjoyed that 3 putt) NOT

it may just be my set up, but I found that the picture and sound in the Amen Corner video 'hiccuped' at times. again, the resolution could have been better, fine until you go full screen.
