Should Electric Trolleys be banned for the under 60s?

Ban 'em

Like 460cc drivers, balls that go straight, hybrids, Game Improvement irons, waterproofs that are waterproof, shoes likewise, long putters, Hi MOI putters, push trolleys, pull trolleys, caps, sunglasses, gloves, gps, rangefinders, strokesavers, and anything else I can think of too.

Lets all go back to using Gutta Percha balls, wear Tweed jackets, plus4's and a tie while we're at it.

What is people's problem with electric trolleys, gps, etc etc etc?

If you want one/can afford one - go get one. If you can't/don't want to then carry - where's the issue?

I would say no.
There are some people who have problems carrying their bags around a course and without a trolley, simply could not manage 18 holes. So for them a trolley is a god-send.......However.......

Ban leccy trolleys says the man who is raving about a hybrid on another thread?

Hybrids are more of a cheat than a trolly!!!!

No they shouldn't in my opinion. I don't see why people have a problem with younger golfers using them. I am plenty fit/strong enough to carry but I choose to use my trolley as it leaves more energy for playing the game. It's a choice at the emnd of the day. Now people using buggies in competitions on the other hand is something I don't agree with unless you have a medical reason for doing so.

mmm, the golfers achilles heel..

Unless you have a note from your doctor or your mother you surely dont need to own one of these 'game improvers'.

Pulling a trolley or carrying will keep you fit and spend your money on a hybrid 3 iron replacement instead...

That would be a great way to double the cost of your golf club membership!

All those ex amateur footballers/ rugby players who's knees and hips are shot by 50 and couldn't get round if they had to carry! I would be the first to stop!

I'd give the game up right then and there. No way could I carry or push/pull due to leg problems. It's hard enough just walking round some days. A bone head idea tbh

I've carried for the last few months and d'ya know something..? It's not made any appreciable difference to my game.

However...

I've noticed over the last few months that my back is more painful and my ankles are in ruins. The extra weight is putting more pressure on the broken coccyx I suffered as a teenager and it's exacerbating the symptoms of my flat feet causing the swollen, painful ankles, shin splints etc...

I'm going back to using a trolley, and if I could afford one it'd be electric.

I'm 28 years old.

Pulling a trolley or carrying will keep you fit

Pulling/Electric trolley - you walk the same distance, you'll burn the same calories, you'll get as much excercise but you'll end up with a dodgy back twisting to have your hand on the pull trolley handle.
Carrying doesn't burn up many more calories then pushing - you walk a similar distance just with 20lbs on your back that can't do your back any good in the long run.

If you want to keep fit - go to a Gym.

I am 27 years old, I'm a 7 day member at Forrester Park GC in Essex, I try to play 2 sometimes 3 times a week including the Sunday morning competition. I carry my bag which has Driver, 3 wood, Hybrid, 4-SW irons, LW, Putter, balls, tees, jumper, bottle of drink, and all the other little bits and pieces like ball markers etc

Not so long ago, I thought I had slept weird and had a stiff neck, after about a week it was still hurting and I was in so much pain I went to see a chiropractor to get it sorted. By feeling my spine, neck and shoulders he knew straight away that I was a golfer. He then asked if my family had any history of back problems, to which I replied yes, my mum had a slipped disc which was removed, my dad has a bad back as does my Aunt. He told me that I'll suffer the same when I'm older but I really shouldn't be carrying my clubs when I play and that I get a trolley as some damage has already been done.

Are you saying I'm not allowed one though??

Why should they be banned? Should pro's be asked to carry their own bags?
I have a trolley because i cant affored a bag man, so the wee leccy trolley carries the clubs, unfortunately it doesnt read greens though!!

I used to carry all the time, I took the micky out of a couple mates who had trollies, calling them lazy etc, then I won some vouchers and got one, best thing I ever did, dropped from 17 to 10 inside a year, not all about the trolly granted, but it def helped on the closing stretch. still carry in the winter as they are banned on our course for the winter season, but wouldnt give up the pk now.

I would say if you're resonably fit and healthy, carrying a bag will not give you back ache.
Bad swings, bad posture, sitting at a desk all day, not doing any physical excercise etc etc may do.

I don't see a problem carrying my bag. It also gets lighter after every drive, about the weight of a golf ball lighter.

Under 70's I reckon! ;) I played with a guy on Sunday in the Club Champs who was in his early to mid 70's. Carried his bag every time he played (it was an old-ish BIG mizuno stand bag too!!). Only reason he was using a trolley on Sunday was so he could put a rain cover over his bag because of the rain.

That said, I will probably buy a leccy trolley when I have somewhere to store it when not on the golf course

When I carry I get a pain in my lower back. Nothing too bad but uncomfortable. My back would "go" from time to time as well.

Since getting an electric trolley, no pain in my lower back and, touch wood, my back hasn't gone either.

Could well be coincidence but I'm not taking any chances! ;)
