As it says really & why do you like/loathe them?

Does your club use them often?

I quite like them, gets the course off to a good group spacing and easy to work in a spacing hole at any well known congestion point

I like a good shotgun start, there is always a bit of an excitement waiting on your tee listening for the horn. Shame it is a horn to start though and not a real shotgun.

At West Hill we were hoping they were going to fire the Cannon on the Clubhouse roof/balcony....

Now that would have been good!

Only ever done 1 SGS and that was at West Hill - seemed to work ok

Have them in winter at the old club. They aren't bad if you got a good tee to start but considering I don't lick any windows at the club I always end up with a crap one.

Its a good atmosphere around the place though. I like that about it

Depends where you get drawn! Before my mate got selected onto the committee being the youngest member I used to always get drawn on the 6th at Aldersey which was in a different time zone to the clubhouse!

Have them a couple of times a year and don't mind them at all. You have got to play all 18 at some stage so it doesn't bother me what hole I start at.

It wont bother you being golfing royalty at your clubs. :)

I bet you've never trekked to other side of the county to tee off then all the way back when you have finished have you pal? :D

Not really, the scorecard back 9 is still the back 9 for any count-back

But it could be your first 9, middle 9 or anything else.
Back 9 countback is supposed to show who held it together coming down the stretch...
So I could be nicely warmed up and eventually playing well for the back 9 but Murph begins on the "back" 9 and doesn't get going until the 10th...come in with the same score and I'm going to win on CB but the 9's in question weren't necessarily the "back" 9....

I like them for a change. Good atmosphere before and after and nice that everyone finishes around the same time and goes into the clubhouse!

However, just for once, I would like to start (and finish) at a hole near the clubhouse instead of the furthest out part of the course!!!

we only use in winter for a couple of xmas time comps, I like the idea and it works well, we have 4 par 3 that don't get used as starting points and 2 groups on all other tees the course flows much better.
I would agree with the back 9 discrepancy though if your having a back 9 countback it should be the back 9,6,3 holes you played IMO.

Welcome to my world! never teed off anywhere near the clubhouse in my life! but i have never encountered queues or serious slow rounds. so i like them!

we've got one on Sunday for the Captains drive in Texas scramble. They work really well for team events I think, only trouble is that my team usually start in Dobbies car park!

We have at least one a month with the pick 'n' mix. I like it personally and only having a 1/4 mile walk to the furthest tee from the clubhouse it isn't too bad. Our first hole is a 200 yard par 3 with trouble everywhere and I've only ever birdied it when playing a SG start.

I joined a club for the winter and my first comp there was in a shotgun start, starting on the furthest out tee (naturally). The main problem was.... I had only played the course once by then and only had the vaguest of idea where I was going....

I will tell you I teed off at the 11th last time out.......

Right next to the road with the gate by the tee box. It was a hell of a trek I can tell you.
