Am I right in thinking in that because you may be starting on a hole other than the first, your handicap can't be affected by your round?

Oh good!

Surely I've not been done with another golfing myth? Is there ANY kind of rule regarding playing the holes in order, starting with 1?

If you simply decide to start at the 10th, say, then you will be disqualified. But if the Committee says Shotgun start and you play from the allocated hole, then no prob.

'The “stipulated round’’ consists of playing the holes of the course in their correct sequence, unless otherwise authorized by the Committee. The number of holes in a stipulated round is 18 unless a smaller number is authorized by the Committee.'

So if it was deemed a non-qualifier, it would (should) have been for another reason. Was it specified as a non-qualifier before you started?

Thank Foxocube, that makes sense.

No, there's a shotgun start comp at the end of the month and it's the first of the year but for some reason I had it in my head that it wouldn't count.

Glad to hear that it will.
