Is anyone using one of the shot trackers that involve sensor tags in the top of your clubs? I love techy stuff but I see that the best of these work with iPhone and at least one requires the phone in your pocket. My iPhone 6s+ is too big to play with comfortably in a pocket and any way don't most courses forbid phones? Just wondered if anyone had any experience of these and if anyone got around the 'phone in pocket' issue?

Game golf seems to be the popular one, have a look on youtube. I believe the clubs have 'tags' on & you activate it via a little pad attached to your belt/in your pocket, fairly discreet by the look of it. You then download data to PC/Tablet for shot info after the game.

Game Golf doesn't require the use of a mobile, just stick the tags into the end of your clubs and tap the device that fits onto your waistband.

Might be worth having a look at the new SkyCaddie offering, the Linx GT (if they actually ever manage to release the thing), it's a similar to GG however you tag your watch which is also a GPS unit so you have 2 in 1.

Arccos is another however not sure if that requires a mobile?

Shot Scope is another one.....supposed to have been released by now but the usual "production delays" and final "product tweaking" means that folks who have pre-ordered wont be getting theirs until the end of June.

SS key feature is that you don't have to tag each time you take a shot. But it does rely on a dedicated wrist device....am looking forward to getting mine to see how well it works.

Microsoft Band 2 is also usable in terms of its automatic shot detection but is let down by the awful Taylor Made myroundpro website.

Arccos looks great except for the size/weight of the tags and the fact that they still haven't got android support operational.....and it is expensive.

I used Game Golf when it first came out but found it too intrusive to my game in terms of remembering to tag shots.

I saw the Shot Scope but what really put me off is having to wear a dedicated wrist device that doesn't have any GPS capabilities of it's own. For anyone who wears a GPS watch the SS is just not going to be an option.

Anyone seen the new Tom Tom Golfer 2 watch? Talks about auto shot detection...

Garmin S20 has the same although seems early days and not all the reviews are positive.

If you're set on a shot tracker I would suggest going with one that is designed for the purpose rather than auto detection. Not convinced how reliable that would be.

Just to clarify. Arccos is now Android compatible.

I use it and it's brilliant. Just need the social aspect improving which I believe is in the next update of the app.

You use your phones GPS (which is reviewed better than the game golf.... I can't comment as not played with game golf) I leave my phone in my back pocket. Always starts on 100% battery... Finish with about 65%.

Given the size of my phone I wouldn't want it in my pocket.... but am glad to see Arccos have got Android up and running.... the system looks excellent and the online stats portal looks as good as anything else out there. The more competition in this area the better.

Yes i've seen some less than positive reviews. The new tom tom golfer 2 also has a shot detection feature, but no reviews out for it yet.

Surely its only a matter of time before the technology catches up and game golf will be obsolete? I like the idea of it but cannot be bothered with the faff of tagging and wearing a stupid red box on my belt.

I'd agree. I know folks who tried Microsoft Band and they found that they were getting phantom shots from practise swings where they hit the deck a bit too hard, and missed swings as well. And as an aside for MS Band I gather it wasn't very canny at working out what was going on on a tight course.
Oh and with auto shot detection you'll never get it working out which club you're using.
Gamegolf is amazing. I love mine. You build up a real insight into the game, and the web app underlying it all is pretty powerful for dialling in to where you need improvement.
You can share your insights page as well, particularly useful if you're having a lesson as the pro can use it to tailor a lesson to you.
Here's mine. Don't laugh. http://www.gamegolf.com/player/jdpjamesp/insights/share/58d58f4e33

I used the MS Band and never got phantom shots....it maybe missed 4 or 5 shots a round and a couple of short putts.....but TBH that was on a par with the number of shots I forgot to tag when using Game Golf!!!

The only issues I had with the MS Band was occasionally it would think I was playing a different hole when I walked past a tee box of a close by hole.

Whilst the MS Band could never tell what club you are using, there are systems like Shot Scope with auto shot detection that can tell what club you are using because like GG they use tags in the clubs.
