Played this morning. Nothing spectacular in that, however, listening to my playing partner (good friend) he suggested I shorten my backswing on ALL my shots.
I was aware I tried wrapping the club round my neck, but also felt I had shortened it somewhat of late.

Put the theory into practise......what a difference!
Far better control, my drives were straight and longer than my overswung thrashing efforts previously done!
Continued the shorter backswing onto my ironplay and around the green and saw similar results.

On reflection, I decided I was trying to "hit" the ball too hard instead of striking through it.
Just need to practise this during the coming weeks, I'm sure my game will improve.

Anybody else feel that a more controlled and shorter backswing results in better control, and in some instances longer shots?

I played a round yesterday with the same idea, shorten my backswing slightly and hopefully get more control (I also tried to slow it down slightly, which I think helped as well).
The result?
For the first time ever in my 18 months of playing golf I managed to average +1 per hole, a target I was hoping to achieve at some point this year but certainly not this early. Even managed to play the back 9 in only +6, I think this really works.
