For sure I always play better when I hit on the shorter stuff, but then my place is generally a dropped shot getting out of the trees after an errant tee shot.
Short game is my weakest part and therefore needs the most attention. I am a short hitter anyway and so accuracy a premium. For me, scoring from 100 yards and in is still key
No point in bombing it out there if your 2nd shot lands 30-40ft away from the flag all the time. It's approach play that you need to work on, Speith ain't that long but his distance control and accuracy has got him to where he is today, plus all other aspects of his game are important as well.
You need all aspects of your game working to consistently score well.
I've shot low 70's scores hitting hardly any fairways or greens or both.
But if the long game is working, it puts less pressure on the short game
So, for me, its the long game that matters more.
I'm scoring well at the moment because I'm keeping the ball in play, mostly, and hitting more greens
