With the new influx of the new spikeless shoes, are these allowed in the clubhouse/bar area? Obviously the grass/dirt having been cleaned prior to entering.

It depends on the rules of the specific club.

Many simply say 'no spikes' others say 'no golf shoes'. Others have a 'spike bar'.

Our entire clubhouse is a "spike bar", I still wear posh shoes in it, especially on competition day. It would feel weird NOT to.

Its up to the individual clubs to decide their rules.

However, you've got to remember that the course gets sprayed with various chemicals at different times of the year. With the best will in the world does everyone thorughly clean their shoes when they come off the course? Some will do a great job and others will barely touch them.

So do you want xx number of members walking potentially caustic chemicals into the carpet and maybe significantly shortening its life? Do you want an increase in fees because of the need to replace the carpet on a more regular basis?

The rule about golf shoes in golf clubs isn't just about the dirt...

Currently we are allowed clean golf shoes in all areas downstairs, however, due to flood damage, the carpet is due to be replaced within the next month. After that, the rules will be changed such that you can only enter the changing rooms with golf shoes on. The rest of the clubhouse will have a "No golf shoes" rule.

Seriously ????

Chemicals sprayed onto the course have a "rainfast time" which means in most cases they will stick to the intended target within 30 mins to an hour should there be a shower of rain , hardly likely to be sticking to all and sundry after application as there wouldn't be much point in applying them would there ?

If these " caustic " chemicals are ruining the carpet what the heck are they doing to the course !!!!

more importantly what are they doing to your hands when you touch the ball and/or the green when marking your ball
