Watched the West Ham v Liverpool game. Take a bow referee. Most inept performance of the season. Two shocking decisions for the West Ham goal (clear foul by Carroll) and the second Liverpool penalty. Not a fan of either club so no sour grapes or smugness but as a casual viewer it was an abysmal performance by the officials. The linesmen didn't help either. How can the PL continue to let the standard of officiating go down. It's been a season of errors and no signs of things getting better.

It has to change Homer but I don't know the answer. Am wary of too much techno stuff as don't want it to end up like NFL. Sure tennis, cricket and rugby has it but they have more natural breaks. More officials hasn't worked in Europe as those barnpots stuck behind the goal with Harry potter wands don't seem to do anything. I am told they go on regular training and development sessions yet these awful mistakes happen week in week out. Maybe we will just have to suffer with it.

If I was a fan forking out loads every year on a season ticket or on travelling away, why should we have to suffer. These guys are suppose to be professionals and there seems to be no comeback if they may a pigs ear of it. If we make mistakes in our professional lives we get some kind of disciplinary or the sack! How come these refs seem bullet proof

Totally agree with you. Managers get done for failing to meet their obligations with regards press conferences yet these people do not have to justify or even explain their decisions. It would be very slightly bearable for me it they explained what they saw in their eyes and why they made decisions based on what they saw.

I am HJS, and the standard of refereeing is woeful. I'm sure that they think they are the stars of the show, especially the pillock that is Howard Webb!

I think that they should go to the 1st division and recruit a whole bunch of footballers to become referees and train them up. As far as I'm concerned they will know a real foul, handball, penalty etc etc better than someone who's clearly never played a game at any level!

Like I said on another thread, the 1st decision today could have cost Liverpool the title. The refs obviously need help,it's obvious with the amount of bad decisions. How long would it take the ref to ask an official that's watching the match on a monitor to help with a decision??

The ref in that incident got help off his liner but decided against it and went with his decision. |
Maybe if we could hear the ref's talking like in Rugby then we'd get a better perspective.

But if an official had a monitor they could get a 2nd view.

The ref was waiting for an excuse to make amends for his mistake in the first half the keeper should have known this .==Very poor from the ref but the lino should of held his corner when talking to the ref.== Two wrongs DO make it right but from the fans point of view it was very poor from the officials.== Minolet and Carrol were head and shoulders above everyone else how he did not see it amazes me where was he looking when the ball is in the area.== Don't know the answer as the FA are still in the dark ages and tech is not on the agenda.== I think some things in Rugby make sense like man down hurt just let the phisio come on if he gets in the way stop the game if he dosn,t carry on this will stop players going down if not hurt as they will be down to ten men!!=== Have a proper time keeper so ref is not looking at watch and may miss something.== At the end of the day the fans want the right result so a video ref will help but is not always conclusive but will clear up most bad decisions before they are made.

You will have a chance to tell that to 'Coward Webb' on Saturday Chris!:)

Who wants to be a ref? Your hated by everyone in the stadium, right or wrong decision it doesn't matter.
Should there be more, I think so but then discussion over what was seen cold kill time. Video refs, yes they work but the game will not flow, unless retrospective cards can be given... I really don't see a clear cut solution.
