"'Shocking' that Man Utd do not have women's team"

I believe CF is suggesting that the prima donna's at Utd behave like "a bunch of girls" already, hence they already have a ladies team. It's old fashioned humour but roll with it :D

It should not be mandatory for clubs to have a woman's team.

To me that devalues woman's teams, they should be a success in their own right.

I wish we had equality between the sexes

One team, for men and women, on merit of who is the best can play

I think it is a bit rich for the lady concerned to moan about this. Get self sufficient, create the demand. At the moment the pro game for women relies on funding from the mens game. They don't have a right to earn a living at football.

Bit harsh this, in my eyes. How are they meant to gain self sufficiency/create the demand? I would much rather female sport is given as much of a booster as it can, if only to promote sport to young girls, and stop them thinking it's a thing for boys only. It leads to a healthier, more well rounded society, and stops things being thought about in gender terms.

If that means criticising one of the worlds richest clubs for not supporting it, then I'm fine with that. It's pretty hard to overcome years of inherent bias without some support. The recent increase in exposure is a good start, lets keep it going.

All clubs are businesses though. The first thing saints cut when we were relegated was the women's team.

I'm all for supporting equality in general life. And if woman were full time footballers and paid as per the revenue they generate that's good. But it doesn't set a good example if they earn extra through complaint.

I get that they are businesses. Which is why it's Man Utd being criticised, not the less well off smaller teams. There isn't a team in the PL that could be described as poor.

I fail to see your point about "earning extra through complaint". I don't read this as "pay us more", just a case of pointing out Man Utd aren't doing their bit.

Ironically one of the worlds richest teams don't have a women's team. But the Noisy neighbours do, and it is quite a successful team. A lot is said about the money spent on Citeh, but a lot is spent on the academy and women's football.
Trouble is that if Utd do start a women's team it will be seen as a token gesture. If I were Utd I would focus on getting that debt down.

I see it as the women's game complaining that utd don't help them grow. So basically free money (advertising), and access to future wealth if they grow artificially.

United don't see it being financially viable so haven't bothered. Their or any other prem teams wealth isn't relevant imo. Just because they have become profitable, doesn't mean they have moral obligation to subsidies other ventures.

Women's football, as a spectator sport, is a difficult sell due to the slow pace and certain quality issues. The goalkeeping especially is laughable.

I understand that physical make up causes this but it's difficult to convince people to watch and take this into account. Same as women's cricket. The fastest bowlers seem to throw it down at speeds I was facing as a 14 year old lad in amateur leagues.

For me this is why these sports struggle. Women's golf on the other hand has adapted - shorter holes and the fact they are physically as good as amateur men means they are more watchable.

Not sure I go along with this and you need only to look at the quality in the women worlds cup and more importantly the size of crowds int he US and places like Italy etc to know it's a game on the up. Of course there are physical limitations but they are technically adept

The US has the advantage that there wasn't a massively successful competitor (men's game). And they've won events.

in regards the women's World Cup. I didn't watch much. But what I did see certainly oacked quality from most sides.

Technically adept? In games I've seen they make basic tactical errors and their actual skill on the ball is very rudimentary.

I would like to see a women's football team drawn to play a Premier League team in a fully-inclusive cup competition. They want equality - they can have it. And as Everton go 24-0 up on Chelsea Ladies midway through the second half, it's back to Harriet Harperson in the studio to spin her way out of this one.

Over the years I've coached a lot of girls (golf) and just as they mature and get good, they go off, get married, have children and aren't seen again.
Is it the same in girls football?
