Shirt sizes........

Getting fed up with the sizing on casual shirts.
I have to buy an XL wherever I go, (and I don't consider myself an XL by any stretch of the imagination).
Why do manufacturers think that anybody of "average" size, who needs an XL shirt also has a neck size of about 20"????
If I buy a shirt to get a collar anywhere near 16" then it's too bloody small everywhere else.
And it's the same wherever I go.
Why don't they make casual shirts in collar sizes, like they do formal shirts????
And breathe....

You should try Armani pullovers , their extra large size wouldn't fit a skinny midget.

I take a 'large' Footjoy polo, or a XXL in italian cycle wear!

I have problems as I have broad shoulders. Need XL for a nice fit a on the shoulders but then there is acres of spare room around the stomach. Collars don't bother me in casual shirts as I never do up the buttons.

Not quite sure why tee shirt makers believe the polo mint sized neck hole in xxl sizes is going to serve any purpose...

A Greg Norman medium shirt is huge on me, a Glenbrae medium restricts my breathing.

I brought a Cross waterproof jacket in medium off ebay recently, the only good thing I can say is that it has given me another reason to lose weight.

You can't buy clothes off the internet from a manufacturer you've never worn before without trying them on first.

It does on "formal" shirts as I'm buying by collar size.
I've never yet bought a size 16" collared shirt that doesn't fit me, as long as I buy "classic" or "regular" fit.
It's casual shirts that are the nightmare.
I don't do the top buttons up, but a size 20" collar looks stupid even when undone when you are only 16"

Found a shirt maker that offers casual shirts in a decent size.
Their "large" fits me across the chest (42"-44") and the collar size is only 16"-161/2"
Bought a few from here the other day and chuffed as monkeys with both the price and the sizing!!

I'm the opposite. I'm an XL with apparently an XXXXXXXXL neck. Can't find a decent fitted dress shirt in XL that will get close to allowing me to button it to the very top.

The last wedding I went to, I bought an M&S shirt with a 20 inch collar for £20 and it cost me £50 to get it tailored- they cut about 50% of the material off the rest of the shirt!

I find that some XL shirts are a little restrictive. To be honest, I can end up looking like an S and M tellytubby!

I've found the opposite to be honest.
Bought a couple of nice shirts for work, absolutely spot on quality.
Went on to buy 3 or 4 casual shirts and am over the moon with them.
Really thick material, and iron up well.

I buy all my work shirts from CT as they are excellent quality, 100 yards from my office in central Glasgow and I get 25% off. Never bought a single shirt (all double cuff and Tailored Fit) and thought the cotton was thin. In fact the Lewin shirts I bought were almost see through they were so thin but the CT ones at 4 for £100 are superb.

Trouble is, they don't list their collar sizes for casual shirts.
Could end up in the same boat as before.
Fine for "formal" shirts where you are ordering on collar sizes, but absolutely no good if a large (my chest size) comes with an 18" collar (as most of them do!).
That's the good thing about CT shirts. They list the collar size.

My problem with shirts is the arm length. I'm blessed with orangutan like arms so if I get a shirt that fits my neck correctly, it becomes vitrually short sleeved on me. I've recently bought a couple from Jacamo, not the cheapest but the sizing isn't too bad although not perfect.
