Well folks I'm back from the range. What can I say but there is nothing better than standing over a ball with a virginal iron in your hand.

I took my address, waggled the club as per my pre shot routine, good turn.... and hit it low and thin.

Now before parmo throws his toys out of the pram and whinges how I wasted my money getting custom fitted I should point out that from that lowly starting point things got a whole lot better.

I hadn't been swinging well with my old clubs but going back to basics I realised I was standing too far away from the ball and therefore too hunched over. A straighter more upright posture saw the X20's behave brilliantly.

They are undoubtedly heavier inthe head than my previous X14's but that said the feel from sweetly struck shots was awesome. Even slightly off centre hits flew longer and straighter than before.

I have to say I found the ball flight slightly lower and the distances about the same although it was hard to judge as I was playing directly into a headwind (into and from the left) which rendered any meaningful feedback useless. This was purely a getting to know you session.

At the end of the day I got the clubs I wanted at a hard to beat price (£340) fitted to my swing. The bloke in the next bay must have thought I was a bit funny as the smile got bigger and bigger on my face as I worked through the bag, each club going straight and true.

I am in the 2nd round of the winter knockout tomorrow and have already warned my partner that I am hot and ready for action. Bring it on

To summarise. X20's all the way for me!!!!!
