Went out on Saturday in a 36 hole competition at Tain,
Hit a great opening drive at least 280 yards, got to the ball horrid lie on a down slope with the ball about a foot below my feet. Sh*nk written all over it. Ball was duly dispatched right into the broom at the back of the 2nd tee with the hosel of the club.

Didn’t get any better from there, 8 holes and 9 lost balls (new ones at that) later, 23 over for nine holes.
I made my excuses and walked off!!!

New swing here I come.

Booked lessons start Tuesday not going to touch a club till then.

Has anyone had as bad a 9 holes as this before?

Oh yes!
Got invited to Nairn in 1996 I think, looking forward to it and hit a decent 3 wood down the 1st then shanked my way the whole way round, every iron shot basically. "I do play off 6, honest!" was about all I could say to my partner whom I'd never played with before. :o
I had them bad in early 2004, a lesson cured me then.
I had front 9 holes this year in a team match where I started shanking every iron, back 9 it cleared up. That's been the only dose this year thankfully.

It'll pass.

played 9 holes on saturday afternoon on my own. par the 1st, boggy the 2nd, doubled the 3rd. at this point a gave myself a damn good talking to... commited to my shots from then on and went par, par, par, chip in birdi, par. finished with a 41, 5 over. wish i could get it together like that when I am not alone.

unlucky on the crappy 9, im know i have had worse.

I get this when i use the driving range too much. It seems smashing 100 balls one after the other makes me worse.

If i go through the season playing week after week and not touching the range just practicing chipping and putting now and again i get steadily better throughout the year.

This was proved this weekend just gone... spent a few nights
down the range just trying out a new driver and 3 wood.
Low and behold played on Saturday morning and S****ed it all over the place. walked off after 9 and went the pub.

I feel your pain mate.
Jim

Shanked 18 holes around Maidenhead in a match earlier in the year. Thanks to HTL we were still only 1 down on the last which we should have one but I hit one last shank and could only make a half. Soul destroying doesn't begin to describe it

I think you just need to relax and let the swing happen, trust the swing, the more anxious you become and worry about it, the quicker the swing becomes, the shorter the backswing, the quicker the head comes up and you have a disaster waiting to bite your bum!

Awe mate its soul destroying, especially as I had been playing so well most of the season. Now I don’t even know how to hit a ball except with the driver or putter. I was thinking on Saturday about hitting the driver off the deck at one point :(
