Anyone else here not suffer from them?

Probably had about 5 in my life. And it's not because I'm a good golfer, cos I'm not.
As someone that doesn't shank, I'm not afraid of using the word ;-)

I'm a newbie golfer and I've shanked once in the past year on the course, but plenty of times during lessons or at the range when I'm working on new things.

For me, it's because I have new swing thoughts and forget some of my personal fundamentals such as keeping my arms straight.

As a horrible sufferer for the past 3 years, it has now been weeks since I hit my last one after a eureka moment.
I was never afraid of the word shank, it was more not being able to stop the inevitable once you didnt feel comfortable over the ball at address.
I have had some of my biggest cuts while going through them too, putting stats were better too strangely.

I never used to suffer with them at all up until about a year ago, then I caught a dose andit nearly wrecked my game.

My pro told me mine were due to a poor turn through the ball. Since 've had lessons I hit them much less frequently.

Excluding the PW I shanked OOB in the last Stableford

How the hell does this word get past the swear filter?

Absolutely - I don't get it that some of us here don't realise how destructive the word is for some golfers. It really should be banned from a golf forum (no kidding). Talk lucy locket or any other euphemism you like - but please DON'T use THAT word on a golf forum.

Cobblers.

It's a word. It's not offensive.
You might not like it, but that doesn't mean I can't use it. Or anybody else using it.

I don't think using the word 'shank' is actually being even in the slightest bit inconsiderate, maybe you should be a little less sensitive, with all due respect.

There are no such creatures as Shank fairies- it's the eejit at the butt end of the club that causes them.

Saying the word- shank- doesn't cause them either.

And maybe you should lighten up a bit. It's a little bit of fun for golfers to forbid the use of the word - especially if you happen to be going through a bout of them. It is very much like actors mentioning the Scottish Play rather than saying the word M*****h.

Lighten up a bit? I'm fairly sure he wasn't joking.
I understand the reference ' don't say the word' which is why in my opening post I said ' I'm not afraid to use it'.

You are correct - I wasn't joking - well not totally. But if I do one or a PP does one when I'm playing I do ask them not to use the word. I'm going through a bad spell of them at the moment and the mere mention of the words gives me the colly-wobbles - it's not funny.

well I had a horrendous dose of the SHANKS:smirk: was SHANKING everything including 3 irons:eek: it went through my game and made me feel like giving up- yes SHANKING was killing my love of the game:(

I got specific SHANK related lessons but still SHANKED, especially under pressure, I was even about to qualify for the club champs then SHANKED a SW OOB and the following SW was SHANKED as well.........I had reached an all time low:(

went for a NON Shank related lesson as I was thinning, fatting, high weak fades etc etc and he sorted me out and stated the errors in my set up and poor turning would have been causing these shots and probably SHANKS if I wasn't already.

To test it now I'll even set up ALA Luke Donald right off the socket and I still dont SHANK if I do what he said.....

I do agree it's probably the most destructive shot in golf and the word SHANK and SHANKING shouldn't be spoken about on a superstitious forum where weak minded souls hear a word then like Lemmings all go and do it:whistle:

Sorry, but shanking is quite funny. Although I'd never laugh during a comp, or mention it... Until the bar when it would be the first thing I remembered! I dolly putts, hate doing it as well. But I bet you have no problem in writing/reading that!

P.S page forty of this months GM is your cure. Have a nice day. :)

Had a big issue with shanks about middle way through last season. Truly destroyed my game. I had 3 range sessions where I hit nothing but shanks for 100 ball buckets. Not good for the golfing mind.

I still get the odd one, but I at least know now why I do it. (Weight too much onto toes)

Only ever hit 1 during a round of golf, plenty on the range but usually they go away after stepping back or going for a lesson. I am quite prone due to my tendency to come too much from the inside, I am changing that now.

They are very annoying and sap the patience out of anyone. The good thing is they can be cured, I have had many bouts on the range and then gone on to shoot a good round just days later.
