Having bought myself 100 A Grade Maxfli Noodles for practice purposes today I am now after a decent shag bag that will comfortably house this amount of balls whilst looking decent as well. Anybody have any advice or recommendations? I have never owned one before so I am not sure what to look for other than it being durable, nice looking and large enough. Obviously if you know of one that only holds 80 balls let me know anyway and I will have a look.

Thanks in advance.

:D

Most only do hold about 70 - 80 balls

I have a PGA Tour one if you want it, free to a good home (i use clikka tubes)

My titleist bag definately holds a lot more than 100.
This one has a holographic look to the piping round the edges and looks grand, its very sturdily built too.

I use clicka tubes.....sooner or later they break, so I go and get a FREE replacement from Sports World.....I have 4 tubes, and I think Sports World smell a rat. Still, it's their problem, my consumer rights say I can take em back ad infinitum.

Ooohh, is that a cup you've sneaked in there :)

Nice cup, shame about the bag.......

Thanks for that Brendy I had looked at the Titleist bag because it looks great but I couldn't find anywhere how many balls it holds so I will take your word for it and most probably order one from online golf when they have them in stock. Unless of course someone has anything else to tempt me...

Also thanks for the offer Adjani but I really am after something that will hold 100 balls- much appreciated though.

If you want I can count how many it holds tomorrow :D In fact due to being washed out today, tomorrow isnt looking too hot either so will be at a loose end!
The pic has the trophy in it as I won it last year along with the jumper and shag bag. I was chuffed to bits to win any of the items, never mind all of them for player of the year (winter season)

I'm coming around to the wisdom of having at least one of these to hand. If and when Sports World finally crack on and blow you out then a couple of stout turns of gaffer tape just under the opening and an elastic band to hold the click bit in place seems to do the job.

To be honest I've never actually seen one that doesn't have some variant of the above modification done to it.

A shag bag is a great bit of kit if you've got access to a field and can belt tonnes of balls away to your hearts content but I promise you, when you need to reload- the versatility and convenience of a Clickka tube will speed the process and perhaps more importantly- save your back.

Click twenty in , bombs away into the shag bag, repeat until reloaded.

Job done.

I don't own a shag bag but have seen the Titleist one up close and it's sturdy and well made. Leather outer and stitched cotton inner if my memory serves me . Built to last.

I'm 99% certain the Titleist holds 100+. I use an old Mizuno one which also holds at least as many and also use a clikka tube as I'm not good enough to use a wedge to flick it up and catch it in the bag and didn't fancy bending down all the time.

Have to be honest tohugh and say I'd search the internet if I was you and see what brand and price suits you best. There is no reason why you need to have one to take all the balls at one go and it will give you some spares as I find I invariably collect less or more (depending how busy the practice ground has been) than I hit

Where does the name shag bag originate ? Is this slang?
I thought there are only three definitions of a shag;
1. a sea bird
2. a dance
3. a different kind of dance!!!!!!

and now also a bag for holding golf balls.

I could well be wrong but I think it comes from a shag caddie who would stand out at the other end of the field and catch/retrieve/provide a target for the balls you hit. How the caddy actually came to be called thus is something I haven't a clue on. Can't deny it's a little amusing in the way that the American slang term for bottom (and I don't mean tush) doesn't get much airing this side of the water for fear of a slap in the face from any ladies within earshot. :(

I have the Srixon bag, it holds about 150 at a push but I tend to take between 50-75 balls. I dumped the clicka tubes as they break so easy, I just use the edge of my gap wedge to click the balls up and into the bag, sames times.

Il confirm that the titleist bag holds at least 140+ This is my bag with exactly 100 in it, its only a little above half way, plenty of room for gloves, pens and a cloth to clean the irons.

Well if the player was playing too well any caddy acting as a target def' would be severly shagged.

"Someone call an ambulance, oh & does anyone know any good caddies"

No-wonder the guy collecting the range balls sits in an armoured or caged vehicle.

lol..
forgot
shag...fine tobacco
shag ...rough coat (shaggy dog)

myself and the lad knock balls to each other but are not accurate enough to worry each other....till yesterday...ouch!

I have the Titleist too. Well made, capacious, etc. Looked at the Wilson Staff, but was put off by the colours. Looked like a handbag.
