Been thinking a bit about this lately, I like my irons but im not convinced the shafts do me any favours. Playing Titleist 775 CB's which are about 5 years old, shafts are standard titleist regular.

Tinkering with a shaft change rather than a club upgrade and im interested in what shafts people have in their irons and how they came to the conclusion they work for them and why.

Ultimately for me I need a custom fit with someone like Scott Gourlay.

One of the catalysts for this question was today whilst in Manchester I dropped into Clubhouse golf looking for a wedge and spotted a vokey with a project x 6.5 which I wasnt convinced worked in a wedge but it must do for someone I suppose.

Very expensive experiment - though if you can pick up a 6 or 7 iron off Ebay, you could run a test.

Rule of thumb is that you should play the softest shafts you can control, so be proud of playing Regulars! ;)

And I know someone who PX 7.0 in wedges! Scary long Driver too

S300's in mine as per the Mizuno Swing SNA gizmo

HAd PX Flighted 5.0's in a previous set and they didn't quite work.
Had S300's in the MP58's and now in the Razrs too. They work for me.

Lol you know what i am going to say, get yourself to Scotts and try these Prototype Scandium shafts, they are so good. I have never been a strong iron player, hence why so many woods in my bag, but this is changing.

I know and that's what I will do, just keen to find out why people settled with what they have especially if they didn't get a custom fit

Go to a Mizuno Swing DNA centre. 3 swings and they will match up a shaft to your swing. Easy peasy

3 swings and insisted I get Nippon 950 90g shafts- totally ruined my game. Sorted out 127g X-100's myself, game back.

the DNA is a starter and indicator, not the answer imo

I got my irons fitted with Mizuno. The original shafts were Dynalite Gold S300, nice feel but my ball flight was too floaty. I went to a different Mizuno fitter and he fitted me for PX 5.5. For me they have even better feel a lower ball flight and are longer. I love them! I don't feel the same way about there graphite shafts though.

Getting your clubs reshafted is not cheap!!!

Glad I did it though.

How did you know the X100 would work? Did you have them before?

nope, never, just went to ag and tried different shafts and these were giving me good feel and I liked the flight and distance- no electronic gizzmos involved, purely trial, error and feel
