Basiclly since i bought my mx200's 2nd hand i've always seemed to struggle with a higher than average ball flight and thought it must be the shafts being to soft for me as they project x rifles 4.5 which are apparentley softer than regular.

So i did the mizuno dna thingymajig today at a local range and my swing speed was around 80mph but my transfer to my downswing is really fast, around 7.655 or something like that and causing too much kick in the shaft and making the ball flight abit higher than it should.

So they said they could order me in rifle 5.5 shafts and fit them to my current mx200 heads.

So would i really notice the diffrence by getting the stiffer shafts? Or another thought i've had is maybe changing my clubs all together and getting fully custom fitted for mizzys and trade in my mx200's against them?

Any suggestions?

4.5 - 5.5 is a big change. I didn't like the feedback from a 5.5 after hitting a few with a 5 shaft. Better be careful on this one or it could be a costly exercise with no real gain.

2nd opinion time possibly

80 is not really fast, and would normally be a regular flex. PX 4.5 is roughly equivalent to a regular, although the shaft is a bit lighter. Fast tempo normally suggests a stiffer shaft, and sometimes heavier helps too. I have played PX5.5 with a 6 iron swing around 87mph or so, and smoothish tempo, and I would wonder of the 5.5 was a bit too much of an over correction too.

What were the other shaft options suggested? - there should have been three options. Something like a S300 XP maybe soft stepped once, might be a good option.

Yeah there was 3 options and the s300 was another one of the options. Basiclly he just did it quickly for me as i just was curious if the shafts i had in were a mile out for my swing. He said next time i go back i can hit some balls with all 3 diffrent shaft recomendations and see what feels best.

So is there much diffrence between the s300 shaft and the rifle 5.5?

You may be cheaper buying a 2nd hand set with the correct flex shafts then punt your unsuitable irons.

Really? How much does it roughly cost to change the shafts in a 4-pw to say the rifle 5.5?

The pro said he is going to to get me a price for next time i'm in but that my not be for a week or so.

S300 XP is a Mizuno version of S300 which is a bit more tip responsive than S300. The S300 and XP are also a bit heavier than PX and are possibly a shade softer.

Hmmm if it's going to cost me nearly £200 to replace the shafts i may be tempted to trade in my irons for some new mizzys as i have had my eye on some of the new ones and have a fair bit of xmas money left.
