I know its been banged about for years about which flex to play and why.....
Im just wondering has anyone ever changed there whole set completely from stiff to reg....
I changed my irons recently and have gone with regular.....I dont know if its me or the clubs but i seem to be swinging much more smoother with them......
Can a change of flex have the effect of making you play within yourself.....I will be changing woods and hybrids soon and im just wondering should i change all these to Reg also in a bid to get a more consistant and repeatable swing.....
I find i hit the Stiff shafts well but i have and aggressive transition and i dont know whether this is due to the fact that the shafts are stiff and in my mind im thinking that i have to give the ball a good belt with them.....
Everything iv read points to the answer play the shafts that you can control the most...but if undecided err on the side of more flex.........

Leaving the EGO thing aside i dont care whether im longer or shorter than the next fellow as long as im accurate.....

You should play a flex you can control. If you can control the regular shaft, go for it. Your bad shots wil probably be less bad than bad shots played with too stiff a shaft. Good tempo forgives a lot. If you feel you need to muscle stiff shafts, that is a good sign that regular is better.

By the way, you can get a decent pro to fit in between flexes, by either hard stepping a softer shaft or soft stepping a stiffer one. This will give an intermediate flex. The choice to hard step or soft step depends a bit on exactly what you need and what brand of shaft it is - some suit one better than the other.

You can pretty much ignore what flex it says on the shaft as there are no standards and one reg flex is different to another.

Having said that, it sounds very much to me like the softer flex suits you. If you felt like you were having to go after the old clubs then they were wrong for you.

Unless the woods and hybrids have the same shafts as the irons don't assume they will be the same just because they both have regular written on them.

Make sure you have a chat with a pro and tell him what iron shafts you have so that he can advise the best way to go.

I think you'll just have to try some out and see. I expect you are probably well into the stiff category but if you swing gently with a reg (fairways and rescues) and find you get a better hit and direction, you'll know what to do.

My pairs partner should have stiff clubs, but chose regular irons when he got a new set and has promised himself to swing gently and smoothly, like he did when he tried them. They are working really well for him.
Horses for courses.

PS, I had a reg shaft rescue once and lent it to a mate for a whole game. He hits it fast and miles but got on with it fabulously, better than the stiff he had at the time.

My 4 wood's regular and my 5 wood's stiff.

Hit them both well.

It's how you hit them not what it says on the sticker!
