severn bridge toll

You only pay on the way in 6.80 complete rip off, can't wait till they are reduced next year, also getting rid of the booths as they cause traffic jams.

That's when it's expected to have been 'paid for' by the users (as opposed to all taxpayers!). Only paying 'on the way in' means that a single set of toll booths (and associated staff) is needed - as opposed to 2 sets, including staff, charging half the fee each! So actually more efficient, therefore the charges are able to be reduced earlier!

They have those tool booths abroad where you can throw the change into a chute rather than pay an attendant, that seems to speed things up.

Indeed! I seem to remember doing exactly this in Scotland!

And, there was me thinking bridges in Scotland are toll free...

And, thought there were coin baskets on the Severn crossing toll booths...

And lastly... Since the Dartford crossing did away with the toll booths there have been more than 3 million penalty charges issued... So, more lucrative for the operators I'd guess... Motoring is no fun in the UK anymore :(...

If your coming from the north consider the A48, I've used it a few times without losing any time and there are some nice views rather than just the motorway, it's another option.

Or the M50 then A40. Be careful of the cameras on the A48.

The toll booths are going, well the manned ones anyway. Know someone who is losing there job. And i think the bridge had paid for itself several times over, profiteering from the French owners.

They weren't (at least Forth Road Bridge one wasn't) in 2000-2002 when I was there, nor in 2007 when I went back!
Been toll free for years, and not coming up as a toll road on mynTomTom.
I really resent these toll roads as the government already takes more money from us that it spends on the roads, and the charges us for using them. The new Mersey Crossing bridge will also be tolled when that's completed. Gits!
