I currently have Sky Sports and have mulled over having Setanta for a little while now mainly because of the dedicated golf channel that they have.

Does anyone on here have Setanta and do you think the extra £11 per month outlay is worth it? I know that it's not just the golf and they have footy games too, and I think if it was £5 I would have snapped it up, but £11?

Personally i have Sky hD and there is no chance of me paying extra to watch Setanta unless they offer HD. I missed the Cardiff Arsenal game last week because of the Setanta subs. Whilst it is a good idea to have choice unfortunately when you pay a lot for one service, you don't really want to pay more for the little bits left out.

I have sky sports, and used to have American golf on Sky. It bugged me when they lost it to Setanta, along with half the premiership footy, and yet I didn't get a reduction in subs having lost half of what I pay for (note most of the other 999 channels on sky I can get through my digital telly anyway, and those I can't are rubbish that I don't watch). I still want Sky for the rugby, but really really don't want to pay even more to get from Setanta what I previously had.

The whole thing sucks as far as I am concerned.

Firstly, I should say that I haven't watched Setanta' golf coverage, but given that it seems to be purely of PGA tournaments fed directly from American TV, that is not a good sign. I remember watching the '92(?) Ryder Cup in the States and I timed the adverts at between 17 and 19 minutes per hour! I wouldn't pay extra to watch a bunch of US no-hopers playing the Lesser Tallahassee Funeral Homes Masters...

Likewise from what I know the Golf Channel is little better than shopping channels, with the greatest respect to those that enjoy programmes about plastic thingummyjigs that turn cucumbers into spirals.

Re: Setanta & Sky Sports

i must admit i watch more setanta than any other channel since taking up golf.
BUT i do always make a point of recording it cos of all the damn adverts!

Re: Setanta & Sky Sports

Simple folks, switch to Virgin Media and Setanta comes free as part of the basics sports pack. The difference between virgin and sky is with virgin you have to pay over the odds for sky movie channels, where as with sky you have to pay over the odds for setanta sport channels.

I value the sport more than the movies so have virgin, with a virgin + box and it is every bit as good as sky. I have all the channels except sky movies including the few you can get in HD and off the top of my head it's around £40 a month.

The only thing i am not sure about is what happens with new customers- Setanta became free when Virgin lost the rights to channels such as Sky 1, sky 2 etc (Now have them again) and so they just added it on, and since the return of sky 1 etc they haven't removed it so I assume it does come as part of the standard sport package. Happy days- I love watching the PGa tour golf, and other programs such as Out of Bounds and the My TPI program.

Re: Setanta & Sky Sports

well i would say sky is superior over virgin by a country mile but lets not get into that....

do you get Setanta Golf channel with Virgin? i don't think you do.

Re: Setanta & Sky Sports

To hell with that, I just don’t bother with any of them and save a packet. Free view for me, although I watch the odd European tour event on the net for nowt and that’s it. Yes, I’m tight fisted when it comes to that. God I’ve still got the old sky analogue decoder/dish and I still get eurosport for ef all…..how’s that for saving a fortune over the years.

Re: Setanta & Sky Sports

Has anyone watched that programme on Setanta Golf late on thro the week....can't remember the name of it Show me golf or something?
I think that it has to be the worst ever golf programme produced, the director is possibly an 8 year old or something and the presenters are just horrific!I put it on and actually could not believe what I was watching,a truely dreadful show that would be more at home on cbeebies!

Re: Setanta & Sky Sports

Yes I had the missfortune to watch Show Me The Golf last night, it is by far the worst thing on TV, the bird is fitt on it and has a decent swing and that's it. Can't belive I wasted 30min on it!

Re: Setanta & Sky Sports

i hate to admit it but i'm quite partial to:
- Big Break
(Donald trump sponsored golf comp)

- Lessons with the Pro's
(seeing Don Cheadle beat Rich Beem was hilarious last night)

- Highway 18
(ridiculous comp where they race from course to course to complete challenges)

Re: Setanta & Sky Sports

I have sentanta and find its great, PGAtour golf, bit of Prem footie(anti social kick offs 1.30 and 5.30 mostly)UFC the Magners league and coming soon IPL cricket oh and every England away game not bad for the money

Re: Setanta & Sky Sports

quick tip.... cancel your current subscription with Setanta... on the day its due to end they'll call you and ask why you've cancelled.
i said too expensive, they offered me 6months at half price (£6) and told me to do the same every 6months.

Ok then lets not fight ;) :p

And yes you do get it, Richard Branson / Virgin Media own a majority share I think it is in Setanta- certainly some sort of ownership is involved anyway.

As for what others have said about 'show me the golf' would you believe I have literally just watched a recording of it from a couple of weeks ago where I was interested to see what it was like and I only got round to it today. I have come to the following conclusion: What a load of rubbish. It was absolutely terrible and I fell asleep- no joke! That said the bird is pretty fit! She was demonstrating some lunges in the episode I watched .

Ihave both Setanta and Sky Sports and think they are both worth the money. Sky have the big futty games which I enjoy watching, especially the 4pm KO on a Sunday after golf! PLus they have the European Tour and the big golf events so worth the money.

Setanta have England away games, PGA Tour golf, and Premier League games. I think Setanta is worth it IF you support a "Lesser" team in the Premier league. I support the mighty Boro and we have been on Sky once i think this year, but 4 times on Setanta so for its worth it for that alone! Plus like someone else has said the IPL is coming soon which makes the £10 a month i pay seem a bargain!

The only downside I can see to Setanta, and i hope someone will agree with me, is the female presenter on the golf is absolutely rubbish and no where near the same "Talent" as Georgie Thompson or my personal favourite, Di Stewart!!
