Can anyone recommend from personal experience any decent irons for under £250 for a mid - high handicapper?

Used a few sets since I started a few months back and I can recommend the following ones due under £250 for a mid-high handicapper:

Ping i25
Ping G25(or G15/G20)
Taylormade Rocketballz

Personally i sold my older ping G15 series clubs and purchased the i25's and have couldn't be happier. Great clubs.

spot on you can't go wring with a cheap set of Pings, Spear & Jackson of golf....

We could probably recommend all sorts of irons but as to if they'd suit you or not 'who knows' but I will say a decent set of used 'Callaway X' series irons would probably see you rite...

could do with finding out (if you don't already know) your lie angle specs (& ball park shaft flex) before you buy in the used club market

for a mid-high handicapper player and a mear 250 quid don't see that it would matter that much, sometime people can read to much into the game

Was thinking this myself, what's your build and be honest, are you 'Arnie in disguise' or are you matey from the 'Mr Muscle' adverts or are you just an average Joe off the street...

For instance I'm 5'10 with my golf shoes on, 15 some odd stone in weight and I've got quite long arms (bit of a gorilla) my irons are standard lie/standard length, I have a preference for stiff shafts (and no, not that type of shaft either) but I can use some regulars by certain manufacturers although most are like spaghetti in my hands, I'm not the fastest of swingers but I am quite strong so taming my swing has been one of the things I've been working on of late...

A general description of your physique would be useful...

I would say it's completely the opposite, a high handicapper needs all the help they can get and incorrect club fitment will make learning the game all the more difficult, take it from me, I've been there and done that and learnt the extremely hard way...

Any decent low handicapper should be able to work around any discrepancies in their equipment...

Yep you are probably correct but given the Handicap the swing is nevery going to be the same twice so it's not going to be a problem.

it's a more common issue than folks tend to realize to be honest - something that often occurs on the lesson tee folks having specs particularly lie angle spec ill suited to be able to develop with lessons what would be for them a good swing motion into impact

the more loft on the club so the short irons & wedges the more the face plane tilt will point the face left or right if the lie angle is out some
although impact is key so dynamic lie angle which will be affected by lie angle that's out some with folks having to make compensations with the height of the hands & handle delivery through impact

it's even often times an issue at set-up with getting alignments in a good place - if lie angle out folks will then line up with the leading edge not square to compensate for lie angle

get lie angle in a decent ball park area for the individual from the off & set-up address alignments then not further complicated
