Evening all

Me and a friend played today at a local course i know well. The 5th and 6th have adjacent fairways, with the 5th tee box raised so you can see the whole of both fairways when teeing off.

As we are on the 5th tee, there's a group of 4 lads who were walking from the 6th tee down the fairway, presumably to their balls.

My friend tee'd off first, and there's a tree slap bang in the middle of the 5th fairway that is a good aim point whether fading or drawing the ball. His balls lands around 5 yards left of the tree and he picks his tee up and i grab the driver out the bag. As i tee up, one of the lads crosses fairway to the 5th, i give him the thumbs up to play his shot as i presume he has a ball on our fairway. As that, he gestures for me to drive and stands behind the tree. So i spank my drive to roughly the same spot my friend did, although i am normally a bit longer so i think it probably went about 10 yards past the tree.

As we walk down the fairway we watch this lad hit a ball straight right - back across the 6th fairway and into the river tees! His mates are in fits and in no time whatsoever, he swings the club and another ball goes flying into the river. Cue more laughing from his mates and a red faced lad putting his club back in his bag and walked towards the 6th fairway. As we approach him, he turns around and says to me, 'your balls just on the edge of the rough there and points towards my ball', my mate looks around the exact area we though his landed but couldn't see anything.

'Hey pal, you didn't see where mine landed did you?' asks my mate.

'Callaway ball?', he ask

'Aye'

'Ah sorry its in the river mate, didn't realise you'd taken your shot so i used a ball i found on the fairway'

I found it funnier than my mate did to be honest...

I had a similar event. I saw a guy walk onto my fairway and take his shot. He however hit it into the lake. I got to my ball but it wasn't mine. I said "are you playing a srixon mate?" he said "yes with a red star on it?".

Turns out he played my ball. I waited until he hit his correct ball. He then walked off!!!!!! I said "hang on mate, thats a golf ball you owe me!" he looked at my like i just shat on his front lawn.

I got a ball

No way? Crazy!

In my experience people usually lie when they play your ball. Did he replace it? Did your mate have a word?

What's the rule if it was a comp?

At least he was honest........... stupid, but honest LMAO

What an idiot. Anyone with an ounce of sense might have thought that maybe that was one of the balls from the two players stood on the tee. Muppet.

My mate was a stunned into silence, and the lad turned around walked back to his fairway. Of course 5 mins later my mates giving the big un's saying he should go find them and demand a ball back...!

Course... an obvious outcome as your on the golf course and trying not to lose your shiz but darn... I would have been rather upset either on the spot of a few mins later. I am not sure I could have let the guy go back to his fairway without giving me a new ball.

I once was pretty sure someone had hit my ball from an adjacent fairway. I walked up to the green they were on and asked them.
"No mate, played my own ball".
"That's a Titleist 1 which is what I played"
"I play the same"
"So why has your ball got my name on the side?"

10 second silence then from the culprit ..
"What the f are you going to do about it?"

I left them to it and dropped back on the fairway without penalty.
