Played yesterday. Difficult to swing with several layers and a waterproof, and conditions included, drizzle, sleet and snow and as it was my first game of 2013 hard to say where my form is. However I went to the range at Maidenhead Golf Centre, today, not to try and fix anything in particular, but just to keep what I had ticking over.

What occured was a session to warm the cockles of even the grumpiest heart. Ball after ball struck nonchalantly straight and true. I even found a short game technique that worked. One of those rare occasions where everything I di worked. Heck, I was even hitting a fade which anyone who knows me will tell you, is rarer than me being content with my game or my kit. I had real issues hitting my hybrid yesterday off the tee and the ground so took my old TM incarnation to try out. Ended up hitting both superbly although the older model seemed to fly better.

Of course I'm too long in the golfing tooth to know it will last but I'm praying to any rain god that will listen that we need a break in the deluge to let the back 9 dry out and we have a full course for next weekend. I have a chance to play a roll up on Saturday and try it out ina relaxed atmosphere before partnering Hawkeye in one of our pairs events on Sunday. For now though I'm going to bask in the moment where for now, I have a real feeling for my swing and where the clib should be and how I should turn and swing.

Good stuff Homer. It's gonna take time to take all your range work to the course but I don't need to tell you that do I? I've just had a rather good session at the range myself and coupled with yesterdays back nine I'm desperate to get back out on the course next weekend to see if I have really started to get it or whether it's a false dawn. We have nothing to lose next Sunday and absolutely no expectation of anything other than mid table obscurity. It's just another chance for both of us to get the new swings on the course, don't take it too seriously and who knows what might happen.

With you all the way. Amazing how well I hit it today though. Plenty of good drives and pleased with some of my approach shots. Short game still a mare but we know that is the focus for 2013. I'm so up to play next week and can't wait for the roll up where I can play with freedom before the pairs. If we hack it we hack it. If one or either of us plays well then fine. No blame, no expecations and just go out and have fun. We've a good draw so the company will be good whatever happens. I may well crack a smile
