I've got hundreds of golf balls of all makes and models and up to maybe 15yrs old. Looking to raise a bit of money in the Church Fete on Saturday. Was thinking of maybe just giving them a clean and selling bags of maybe a dozen balls for £2. Is that too expensive or too cheap. Or do I select decent balls (recent Titleist say) and sell them for a little more than 15-20yr old 'stones'.

How would you flog em?

Definately spend a bit of time and seperate to maximise the money you can raise.

12 good condition Pro V's for £8 should have any golfer there snapping them up since most golf shops I've seen selling second chance Pro V's charge anything from £1-£1.50 per ball. If you have loads then £15 for 2 dozen should see them disappear.

Sell the decent random rocks for £4 a dozen.

Freezer bags tied up hold 12 balls nicely and they can still be looked over by the buyer.

Thanks for that. Not much on the pro V type front at all - and those I have a battered. In truth the balls would really only be of interest to the beginner or med-high handicapper for playing or practice. I just seem to pick up loads of balls around my place - most good nick but not the sort I play. I'm thinking along lines of £4 per doz for good clean random stuff - and yes - freezer bags were what I was going to use :) £2 / doz for the rest.

Sounds more than resonable then. I know plenty that will pay £4 for a dozen decent balls, espeacially when money is going to something. If you really have loads you could shift them quick in bulk at £10 for 3 dozen ;) or £5 for 3 dozen of the "practice baggers". Handy cause you'd get more notes and less coinage to mess with.

I reckon matching brands would be worthwhile for the half decent ones - with the cheapies sold in bulk at a reduced cost.

honestly I think you need to look at your target market!

they are either going to buy, or not buy, and are unlikely to buy more than one bag.

so, to me, it would be a straight 24 for £5 and only clean balls in the bags.

why 24 not 20? sadly many might start to work out the per ball price at 24 then give up and just buy them!

why £5 - most men don't carry change, and don't like getting it either.

make sure there's a clear indication the 'all proceeds go to.....' to remind people that this really shouldn't be viewed as a value proposition!

with any luck you will be sold out fast enough to get a cream tea :)

Twoferapound, erragolfbawstwoferapound.

Try that SILH, if it works at the Barras........ ;)

Edit: spelt baws wrang. :)

Your post reminds me of the vendors call at Hampden back in the 70s 'getyerjoosyfruitanmacaroonbarshere'

I think I'll bag a few 24s for £5 a bag. Then have a tin of balls to pick from - 25p a ball. If I make £30 that'll do me.

Just want to move them on and make a bit for the church. I can go out any evening of week for about an hour and pick up a dozen without trying very hard from my 'secret places no eedjit would bother going to find their ball'

Soak em in bleach.

As I remember it the correct call for a Hampden ventor with his cardboard box tied with string around the neck was 'errsyermeatrollserrsyermacaroonbaars'

I don't seem to find anything but pro vs anymore - got half a dozen, pretty much hit just the once, sitting in my bag that I've found in last week or so - and I don't use them unless I'm running low on rocks.

could be - but yes - what I remember was 'errsyerjoosyfruiterrsyermacaroonbaars' - and yes littler cardboard tray with string around the neck. Crisps and skoosh from the little open top kiosks at the back of the covered (Rangers) end and North Enclosure terracing (under the North Stand). No such treats for those in the uncovered (Cellic) end in these days.
