OK now I have your attention - I realise I will probably never be-able to play with Titlest ZB's (sooo sexy), however, I have seen several old demo 6 irons for sale in the Pro shop and was wondering If I bought a 6 Iron blade it can only help with my ball striking. As you need to hit them well then when it is time to hit my easy to bash Irons then I will have no problem.

I was thinking of using the 6I for range work and practice then just use my normal clubs for course etc.

Now when I mentioned this to my playing partner he just laughed- his thought on the subject is buy easy clubs and try to get them to go perfect, then buy a set of players Irons, then blades etc. He honestly thought I was mad to contemplate practicing with a club that is hard to hit.

Whats your thoughts??

I can see the concept behind this, jump in at the deep end and all that, but why?

Just learn to use your own clubs rather than 2. I personally would be too scared of ruining what I have built up already.

If your clubs are right for you, grind out your flaws with practice.

I totally understand what you are getting at , I just feel I dont try hard enough with forgiving clubs. Thus I need to concentrate with the blades and hard practice should come through to my normal game.

I would concentrate your efforts on building up some sort of discipline. I suffered from this a while ago. I would visit the range and just knock balls down the range at targets with out thinking. If the ball missed the target i just tried again.

It wasn't untill recently I started making each shot count for something so I had to concentrate. A points system of some sort with your balls. Or a drill to keep you occupied and focused on making the shots count.

Have to agree that practice particularly on a range needs to be structured. I'm fortunate to have a decent practice ground at my club with accuarte targets at 50, 100, 150 and 200 so I can aim and club select with accuracy. By playing off grass I also get instant feedback as to how well I've hit it.

Also speak to your pro and see if you can get some sort of timetable to practice all aspects of your game (set specific improvement targets) to fit in around your free time and maybe get him to review your progress over say a 6 month period

No, I have just posted on this on another post (new irons for inspiration).

Another point is that if the swing weight, loft, lie angle, shaft flex, offset, etc on this odd 6i is different to your current sticks then you will be practicing with a club which feels and performs differently. This is not good, and any gains (few) will be offset by the fact that when you hit your own bats again they will feel alien.

I echo what MTM has said above. Unless the sexy 6iron matches your current set for flex, weight etc, you would be wasting your time and end up getting frustrated. Either that or you will end up shelling out for a new set :p

I've done the 6iron blade from the bargain bin, maily to try out a grip I was looking at for my own clubs. For me it did help my game a heck of a lot when I went back to my normal clubs after a session with the 6 iron blade. Everything was nice & fresh as was my swing. I learnt a lot with that iron & its probably time to break it out again & re-learn a few things again.
