Well after starting poorly in the first 5 or so competitions in the last couple of years I've finally made a good start to the season. I shot 68 gross for a nett 63 (par 68). Got off to a good start with birdies at 1 and 3 and proceeded to par the rest of the front 9 apart from the par 3 9th after going over the back of the green.

So on to the back 9 I made a par on 10 then 2 bogeys in a row from nowhere. Then I missed the green on the par 3 13th and I start thinking not another good round going down the pan but made a good up and down. I then birdied the next and all is good again. So onto a little par 3 it's only 115 yards but the green is evil, I pitched no more than 2 feet from the hole and the ball spins off the green down a steep bank at the front of the green. I leave my next shot short of the crest and the ball is back at my feet but manage to make up and down for a bogey. Last 3 holes were birdie par par with lip outs for birdie on 17 & 18.

Down to 4 now, hopefully I can push on from this and reach my season goal of 3. A few stats for those of you who are still reading this long winded post:

GIR 13/18 (72.2%)
Fairways hit 9/13 (69.2%)
Putts 30

I've started our season slowly going up to 13 already. In fact its fair to say I'm probably still in the blocks. However I ususally come good once the sun is on my back and as I played the back nine well today I'm hoping that with sunny periods forecast, the medal is where 2011 gets going

That's a pretty solid start, well batted!

We've played three qualifiers already - I've played to my handicap once, two under it on another occasion and four over it first time out.

All in all I'm reasonably content as I tend to start the year slowly, and it's the first season I have started as a single figure golfer.

My sole aim this year is to consolidate that handicap.

Thanks for the comments, I'm hoping to get down to 3 so a few more rounds like that and I'll be there. Good luck to you all for the 2011 golf season.
