Scum Caught

Theres a lot of honesty at a golf club, clubs left unattended etc its an honour between players thats this lot took advantage of.Bit suprised that some members at clubs didnt suss them out as none golfers. Its just takes a few questions if somebody looks suspect.

Although most clubs have codes to enter certain area's of clubs, how many times have we held open a door for someone we didn't know?

I've stood in the Pro shop when someone I don't recognise has asked 'what is the code for the locker room or gates', its then given without a second thought and off they go.....!

How many times do we see loads of bags left out whilst visiting clubs and having the bacon butty start, how strange is it to see someone walk to a car with a bag and drive off wearing golf clothes?

I think were (golf clubs) soft targets even though these codes are changed daily, there not a huge deterrent in any way.

What could we do to sure the security up without it feeling restrictive?

I have just done a locksmith course ( not my main occupation just something to earn a few extra quid in retirement ) and it would be fairly easy to instal a card entry system so that only bona fide people can access certain areas . It costs some money but then again so does the lock on our front doors.

Clubs do need to up their game and offer a room for visiting clubs to put their gear in that is secure but maybe separate from other areas.

Best example of this was a group of Richmond Park golfers who used to play a monthly away day.
They met up at the club and generally went 4 to a car/taxi.
Two of the guys drove into the car park to see a couple of blokes loading clubs and trollies into a Bedford van.
They noticed that they where their friends clubs and the asked if the driver could take their sets as it would give them more space in the car.

Guess what...........

We do have a swipe card system on all access doors for members, but their is a pin code for visitors that is changed daily so they can also use the changing rooms/locker room, whilst that may seem to be a safety measure, its far from secure. Maybe a card like a hotel uses for rooms that is programmed and given to visitors daily would be better, it would act also as an ID card as such and would need to be shown when asked?

That's a good idea , Russ and me played at Southampton muni one year , we was having a chip and putt and Russ got his wallet from his bag to get some money to buy stuff from the shop , after our round he could not find his wallet , it had been lifted by one of the juniors in the area , the pro told us that its happen before , you never know who is watching you , its your gear so you need to care for it at all times and at your club if you don't know the person in your changing room and he is behaving in a strange manner , ask the question , no harm done .............EYG

Use them as a tee peg , that be a better idea , each miss hit will hurt then ....................:)
