Scratch handicappers - what's your exact handicap?

my goal is to get there but it may be a few years yet......or never at all.here's hoping!!!!!

i was reading that rory mcilroy's handicap was +5.4 when he turned pro,it was +6 at one point but he said he had a few bad rounds.his stroke average was around 70/71.

Floated around the 5/6 handicap a few years ago, but then had a knee injury for a couple of years so did not play. Started playing again last season and back playing at 9 but hoping to go back down next season. Not sure though if we have any actual scratch handicappers here ie 0 or better.

Played and returned plenty enough cards....it's just his short game is horriffic.Greens in reg and he's laughing, greens out of reg and he's greetin!

Sounds familiar, I've worn out the leading edge on my wedges - good job we don't play balatas anymore!!!

Their stroke average will be around +2 relative to sss. Based on how handicaps work your stroke average is likely to be higher than your handicap (and buffer zone).

If you want to see how that sort of thing works, pick a tour pro with an average score of 69. Start them on +3 for the year, compare all his rounds for a year against par and see what their handicap would work out at.

20006/07 managed to play of sratch and the best i got was 0.1 ..hackin it round off 3 now , but i enjoy ma golf much more now than i did back then ....sounds weird , but the low guy`s i`ll understand ..

Playing off 5 - and actually playing to it too - I can't imagine how much better I'd need to be to get to Scratch.
Another cumulative 46 below CSS with no 0.1's back is just in another Galaxy.

Total respect to anyone who can get there let alone stay there.

Just checked How Did I Do which confirmed, including accidents on the course, I averaged 80 in competition verses the SSS of 72 last year.
Gary Christian was over a fortnight ago and I reckon he is off of plus 6. His average, according to PGATour.com was 69.something on the Nationwide last year. He shot 67 around Walton Heath Old off of the purples where I think the SSS is something silly like 75 (par 72). He really is different class to any amateur off of around scratch.
I wish him well and hopefully he could be the oldest rookie of the year on the PGA Tour in 2012.

really hoping to get down to 1.9 from 4.2 next year, needs a lot of work especially the short game.
Fully appreciate what golfcitydweller is saying, the gap between 5 and 3 is large but between 3 and scratch is enormous, just 2 or 3 little shots but to achieve that week in week out you need your 'A' game. We all have it, we just need to harness it

Just wait a few months and all the 'I'm going to be a scratch handicapper in 12 months' brigade will be glad to answer your question. Or not.

I am nowhere near this league, but I took a look at all the handicaps in my club this morning. We only have 4 cat 1 golfers of which only one is scratch he plays off exactly +1.6. He is also the course record holder, no surprise there.

Got down to 2.7 last year from playing off 5. Home course is a par 71 and I averaged 74.3 for the year.

Going to have a real go at getting down to 1 or scratch next year, just hope the weather lets me have a fair crack at it.
