Is it worth it to you?

Is the seller reputable?

If you fancy a little project and feel like restoring the head, to me the price is well worth it (Subject to seller reputability).

I bought a circa 62 for £65 in December, and have polished it up and then torched it to give it a nice blue. My plan was to sell it on, but played a round with it and sunk a 30ft birdie on the 2nd. Don't think I can part with mine now.

Depends on what finish you want. Removed the head from the shaft, then I fully cleaned and striped the head of any paint, then when it came to polishing, I went over it with 200 grit, then 400 then 1000 then 2000 to get a real shiney finish. Absolute arm and hand destroyer tho destroyer, I might have gone OTT on mine but as it was the first one, I think I deleted the pics on my phone, if not Il try and send you them

The shaft should have a sticker on, of its yellow, it's alot easier to restore than the red. The red ones have been plated so before you can do anything you need to try and remove the plating some how.

OK so I am confident that the putter is not plated - I just gave it a quick degrease and very very fast scrub with wire wool and Metal Prep (POR15 rust remover/metal preparation liquid for automotive)

It appears that the putter has Bluing (or at least did) - see below pics:

After 5mins work:

Cant argue with those results, I am thinking that a proper clean and sandpaper will have it looking great - how am I best to remove the paint infill? likewise what is best to refinish - I am assuming some sort of gun bluing would be close to original!

Really excited about this project :)

Wow.....true what they say about beauty being in the eye of the beholder

But this thread has prompted me to look into get my original oil can Newport refurbed so thanks for that

I shall steal some of the wifes nail varnish remover then!

Haha drive4show - someone must have loved it to buy it brand new... I'm not sure on it looks wise, I like that its different - ultimately I shall restore it and use it (at £45 what have I to loose), if it helps me hole putts who cares, if it doesn't its a fun project and ill sell it on for someone else to enjoy :)

Its threads like this that make me realise what a **** I have been, sold a Newport 2.0 for a pals son for £25.
Why did I not buy and restore it. Glad to see Scotty went to a designer class eventually coz his earlier attempts were flippin ugly.

So an update and question...

I have managed to remove all the paint (acetone and toothpicks) and the head is now looking nice and clean.
As you can see I have some pitting on the top towards the rear of the head, I was thinking sanding starting at around 400grit working up until smooth? Is this a good idea? or shall I just finish it with 00 wool and then apply the bluing?

Thanks

Minor Pitting:

i think it looks fine as it is, a bit of rust and wear never hurt anyone.

other option is to restore it to what it looked like when it was new, which will take time and some skill or money spent sending it to SC

Thanks Patrick

I plan on doing a simple restore at home (work has started as you can see), plan is to gun blue the head and repaint (probably to the original colour scheme) and a new grip.

I shall update with progress!
