Is to be held at Gullane.

Well done. Not sure how the course will cope mind you. It has surprised me I have to say but it will be good to see it here.

Composite course I would think.

Gullane no 1?

Be interesting to see how they run it, get all of the gubbins around the course.

Guess they'll have to close the main road in aswell?

Nice to see it moving around although I'm surprised it is there aswell, I remember it was mentioned as a possible a while back on here.

Excellent :whoo:

Will be going to that, went once at Loch Lomond and wanted to go again until they moved it to the highlands.

Much better for watching than the open as its much less packed

Interesting development. I thought they were more likely to go to one of the new courses at the East end of town. You're probably right about the composite course, it certainly needs something to toughen it up a bit.

I know a few people down there, looks like the plans were laid a good while back....no surprise there eh. As far as I know the holes near the road will not be used, using some from G2.

Great news for me, 10 mins up the raod

By the way, I was in Gullane last night and the rough looks brutal.

Think I'll be making the trip up aswell, be good to see a tournament on course (or courses if they use 1 and 2) I've played loads of times.

Might even have the makings of a wee golf trip :whoo:

Harv, I played Luffness Sunday and you cannot walk side by side doon the fairways in a 4 ball and the rough had lions and tigers in it.:)

I think the organisers now know they need the tournament to be on a links course to attract a better field the week before The Open unless it could be moved to another week in the year. I guess Gullane ticks boxes and being near Muirfield they should be able to do the same parking arrangements with farm field parking and bus transport to course. Fat Phil winning both tournaments last year will have reinforced this kind of Open preparation with other players. Darren Clark played Castle Stuart the week before his Open win too as did Els in 2012.

Makes me wonder if the Scottish Open should be placed the week before The Open, demeans the Scottish Open as an Open warm up rather than a top tournament in its own right.

I like the idea of picking the best holes from the 3 courses to make it very tough.

Don't know why they don't just use ex Open links courses as that way it will be very close to the Open of that year and maybe attract even more 'stars'

If they were to use a composite course I would be scratching my head to see how they would plan it.
Impossible to keep the public off the courses, so no admission entry fee money. Main road next to 1st tee, seems a very strange plan altogether.

This is why Gullane has not held any pro Tournaments before.
Open quallys and top Amateur events only.

Im sure they must have submitted proposals for that sort of thing before getting it though?

Ah well, thats that then.

Probably start at the 3rd on No1 and finish on 17th No2.
Using the longer holes at the end of the first nine on No 2.
Quite baffled as to how it will work with car parking, golf village etc etc.
Perhaps the are going to move the whole works to the top of the hill.

Plenty room to do it all, plenty.

I see they are also advertising for a GM.Both an exciting time and a stressful time to take over that role but the salary and 4 bedroomed "Gillin" abode would soften the stress levels.

We have an annual match against them and they knew they were getting it at the end of March. The Captain and Sec had a few hours meeting with our new Sec ( who used to run Castle Stuart) and they were saying the 1st and the 18th were not being used on due to the road and it would be a comp course with those Two holes as the entrance and hosp area.
