Defenders

Gary Caldwell (Wigan Athletic) - Absolute carthorse. Horrendous player!
Danny Fox (Southampton) - Probably the only half decent player in the defence.
Gordon Greer (Brighton and Hove Albion) - 32 and first call up! Great building for the future!
Grant Hanley (Blackburn Rovers) - Was totally manure against Wales. As bad if not worse than Caldwell!
Alan Hutton (Real Mallorca) - Just a clogger!
Russell Martin (Norwich City) - Has been decent with Norwich from what I can see, I'll cut some slack here!
Lee Wallace (Rangers) - Hahahahahahah 3rd division oh boy!
Andy Webster (Heart of Midlothian) - QE2 could turn faster in a paddling pool! Another mice centre half.
Steven Whittaker (Norwich City) - 14 appearances for Norwich sums it up!

I'd guess Croatia will just need to play Modric and their goalkeeper to beat us!

How sad is that defence. Not a centre half amongst them. We used to have some top quality centre halfs in our time, McLeish, Miller, Gough, etc. How far our football has fallen. Really sad looking at that squad.

I really don't know much about who the 'players' are now as I grew bored of Scottish football years ago.

I did go to the Aberdeen Dunfermline game though and the standard of football was below an average Sunday league game, quite embarrassing and we left early.

What's the solution guys?

Its sad to say, but if Caldwell had been injured all season instead of Ramis, we'd still be a premier league team now. Absolute liability..

I hope Caldwell stays at Wigan, he is beyond gash and will be the key to 6 easy points next season :D

I believe I have the answer!

Switch to Shinty as the national game.
We will be would champions overnight (the American Model, a sport that no one else plays) and who in there right minds would take on a load of drunken scots waving sticks, well apart from the Paddy’s with even funnier shaped sticks.
;)

Got to agree with you there Craw.
I'm a Jambo and I can never understand how Webster is rated as a Scotland player.
Being the eternal optimist Scotland do seem to have some decent youngsters coming on.
I hope wee Gordon gives them a chance.

Commons says he wants to retire from International matches......that has to be the laugh of the day.

Scottish football is rank to the core,it starts with the kids playing on crap facilities. Watched my young lad whose 13 play a Final at Dens Park great getting to play at the home of the team he supports but he was knackered after it ,the pitch was to big for them.

No just sounds like a talking Moron to me. Yes, we know it's crap. But it's our crap.

On topic, is it possibly true that it's the SPL that's held back Scottish Football? There is a lot of finger pointing in that general direction and when you look at the "look after ourselves first" attitude that's showing in massive waves from them at the minute it's hard to say no, it's not.
I, personally, cannot think of one positive that the formation of the SPL has brought to the national game or the national team.
And the split? WTF? A team in 8th finishing below a team in 6th but with more points? That is crazy no matter how you cut it.
And I'm from Fife so I know crazy when I see it.

I used to watch Dunfermline religeously. Then got tired of paying money to watch dreadful footie, players who just banged the ball all over the place, no control and everyone shouting ffs etc. with frustration. Soon tired off meaningless matches with playing teams 4 times a year.
I don't believe the talent isn't there but there is little quality coaching from early age up to the clubs, and too many who think they are coaches but they're just clueless punters teaching kids all the same bad habits that make us crap. How come the Old Firm haven't created a single world class player in decades with all their resources etc.

However as this is a golf forum I'd also like to point out that wqe seem to be struggling to produce top quality golfers which is a scandal for this country.

Perhaps it's all weather related?!? Anyhow life goes on it's frusatrating and embarrassing but no big deal.

I'd disagree with this as I think we're on the right track to a certain extent. I also think Scott Jamieson has the ability to go to the next level.

Let's be a little careful though. We are sated almost day-in, day-out with live EPL football that, despite what some critics say, is actually of a very high standard. Scottish football is bound to look poor fare in comparison. Comparisons with the past are also invidious as we just don't, and can never know how todays EPL and SPL would fare against their equivalents of say the 70s. If you only watch football on TV you are maybe missing what watching football is about. It's a 'being there' came appropriated by TV. Is it really all football's fault if that results in such comparisons being made.

So rather than complain about the standard of Scottish football we have to go and watch our team regularly - get involved with the team, the club and fellow supporters. And if even then you don;t get any enjoyment from going along theb you can very fairly say that you've tried. Like I have said elsewhere - these days we are easy to criticise from afar and from a realtively detached and often narrow viewpoint without actually getting involved.

Would rip the piss right out of any SPL team without getting out of 2nd gear.

I suspect that you are right 99 times out of 100 (what a fantastic team btw was it not - a match against the Lisbon Lions - now there's a thought - Stein against Ferguson) - but we actually will never know.

Maybe we should just enjoy the football we have got - after all is that not what it is played for - for us to watch and enjoy the experience. It is what it is. Things may improve in time but none of us can do anything about that - except get our bodies through the turnstiles and get more money into the clubs.

So for football as in my philosophy for life. Enjoy today for today; don't reflect on what was and what might be - we do an awful lot of that and it doesn't really get us anywhere except a bit more fearful of things that have been and might bite our bum, and things to come - and a bit more resentful and a bit more miserable :)
