Having changed up pretty much everything in my bag (including what ball I use) in the last couple of months, my putter is next on the list. I have a serious pondering over a Scotty Cameron, preferably a centre shafted Golo 5S if I can get one new. Basically I just wanted to ask any Scotty users out there are they all that? I have never even held one in my hands before and just wanted to see if they are as good as everyone says they are?

I bought a Newport 2 in the summer because I always coveted one, tried one on a large putting green next to the pro shop to compare with my existing TM Blade for about an hour. 1st impressions was I loved the balance and feel and loved the feel and sound of the ball off the milled face, (The ball seemed to roll better rather than jump off the face) and on this basis bought it.

Not regretted buying it as every time I use it feels good, has it improved my putting over all, difficult to say because it put a lot of hours into putting with it so this has probably improved anyway, but I am sure some of it because I like picking up the Scotty.

Are they worth the premium, only you can decide that

Gaz has it spot on, no different than a £20 sport direct special.

I only use a scotty because the feel and club suit my swing perfectly. I've NEVER putted better than I do with the futura in my hands.

I've just got a new grip for mine…£35 for an official scotty one (thats not even a special one) Utterly scandalous!

I have a Scotty golo 5, before that had a Newport studio select.

It's nice, and I like it.

Is it "All that"? In truth, not really. It is certainly nice, looks good, feels good etc. you pays your money you takes your choice.

Fwiw I wouldn't go for the latest golo with the wraparound face insert, I'd look for one of last year's.

Ive a few and i think they are the bee's.

as for the price, for something you use on every hole why do folk complain about the cost when most would pay more for a driver.

Get a better roll and any other putter Ive had before.

Everytime I go into a golf shop I have a go with a Futura X5 and absolutely love the thing. One will be getting added to my bag before the start of next season!

They are expensive, there have been a few design misses (Detour) but when they're right they're awesome. Some are very ordinary in my thoughts though. Been trying to jokingly get my buddy to sell me his Newport Pro Platinum for years - it's an absolute joy to putt with. Not one current model is as good as my Yes! Sandy but that's entirely my opinion and not based on any facts at all.

The have a huge range as do all the manufactures so you cant say "what they are like" as it will depend on your stroke and the putter in your hand. However they are well made!

I have gone from using a string of Scotty Cameron putters onto using a Ping. The Ping is a far better putter for me than any of the Scotty`s were.

I've got a Scotty Squareback, had it for about 5 years now and wouldn't trade it for anything. When I was looking back then to get a new putter, I spent hours and days trying nearly every putter available across a couple of big golf shops in Japan - was on vacation. I was originally after an Odyssey, but after trying the Scotty Squareback, I couldn't find anything else that matched it for feel and balance in my hands. Eventually bought one when I came back.

I don't buy into the "same as a £20 putter in Sports Direct" special thought, if that's the case, why aren't we all playing sports Direct special drivers too? The putter is generally the club used most in any single round, why wouldn't you consider buying a good one - no different to choosing a Taylormade M1 over a Ping G30 or Callaway X2Hot driver. We try and buy what we feel fits us. if that happens to be the Sports Direct Special, then fine, but if it happens to be a Scotty, then that's fine too.

Go give it a try, compare it to the ones in Sports Direct and go with the one that feels good in your hands when you putt.

@Lump - When my Scotty grip first went, I replaced it with a Scotty grip bought direct from their website, next time I went with Winn+, when that went, I replaced it with a GripMaster leather grip - best move ever, fantastic grip set to last a lot longer than the rubber ones.

What the heck do you do with your putter grips?

For me, yes. I didn't believe the hype and was in denial.

Denial saw me buying three new putters this year on the basis that they were more affordable than a Scotty.

Have now taken the plunge, putter no 4! Am very happy with it. If I hadn't been so stubborn and bought one in the first place I'd be much wealthier!

Tried the Cameron range at Silvermere earlier in the year (thanks GM). Some were better than others but all had a certain something about them. I think there are better for my wallet and stroke out there but if you really want one of these, I don't think you'll regret it but try before you buy would be my advice

No different than any other putter, price aside.
Thought the same until I got one

Everything about them just screams quality

The balance and weight on them is perfect

Tried a Ping Anser and it's not a patch on terms of feel compared to the Scotty

Are they worth the money ? Well it's a club you use more than others and it's the scoring club

But they are different as every putter is different in people's hands

Had numerous putters till my Scotty and it will be staying in the bag, never had so much confidence on the greens.

I had a Del Mar for a good while.

Beautiful made, beautifully balanced.

Brand and marketing aside all putters will perform similarly. The effect the brand has between the ears is much more pronounced.

The fact it says Scotty Cameron or Odyssey/Ping/Taylormade on the sole of the club should be irrelivant, but we all know it isn't.

It could say dog poo on the back of mine for all I care. It has a weight and feel to it that I like and that's enough for me.

I've got a number of Scotty's even one that has played in The Open Championship at St Georges in the 80's. I've played Scotty for the past 10 yrs plus, but I now play a Kenny Gianinni G6, hit 3 putts at the Manchester golf show and I was sold, in my bag and won't come out, and it was Kenny who gave Scotty his chance in designing and making putters.

So, do you go to the star pupil or go to the master?
