1. Confirming everyone's details

Scotland: 9 have responded to my email and have confirmed their details, I am just waiting to hear from Madandra

England: 5 have responded to the email and have confirmed their details, waiting to hear from Doh,IMO2,Robo,TonyN and vig. The latter two are making a long journey and Tony has asked if they can go out in the last group on the Friday.

2. Event Format

Let the debate commence. I reckon heads-up stableford on the friday (i.e. 10 games going out in 5 groups) with 1pt for a win, 1/2 for a draw followed by five fourball better ball ties on the saturday, 2 points for a win, 1 for a draw.

20 points up for grabs, 10 on each day.

What handicap allowances to use for the stableford and the matchplay ???

3. Captains

We need both countries to pick a playing captain. I'm happy to do the organising so I'll remain neutral off the course (on the course it will be war: me versus the gorse) and not up for captaincy.

The captains would be responsible for putting their players out in whatever order and groups that best suited their team.

Cheers
Andy.

SS2 my thoughts are Friday Matchplay better ball seeing as 1st time most will have clapped eyes on the course so thought it fair it was better ball matchplay with 3/4 diff taken from lowest player in the group.2 pts for a win 1 pt for a halved match.

Saturday I thought Stableford(full allowances) now that everyone has seen the course with a format of Team better ball stableford total....i.e.if I and JF were playing together and shot 44pts better ball against IM02 and Tincups 43pts we win 2 pts,1pt for a half.

As well as the country score an individual stableford
with prizes which myself and IM02 have in hand for 1st 2nd and 3rd.(no points in the game just a side thing with prizes for the top 3)

I would happily be in charge of Scotland and also will do the draws for both teams(Catering for needs to be put at certain stages of the draw as we have a few) but if the England captain wants to use strategy(not sure if there needs to be any)he could let me know and we can take it from there.

I think dodger is onto it here.

It's a similar format I play on an annual weekend outing with my mates. Works quite well.

erm.....

not seen that format in any of the big events.

It's hard enough concentrating on one match never mind two matches at the same time.

You ever tried that Sammebee??!!
Bloody hard to remember who your playing against and if one of the games finishes in a 8&7 humping it leaves 2 guys with not alot to play for....team way is far more sociable even if 10 pts ahead with 3 holes to play, one team blobs final 3 and the other screams home game is won!

Yes I have played it - it's quite common in corporate golf day team events as it actually means that if one game finishes after a dog licence, there is a good chance the other game is still going.....

Why are you going on about Stableford anyway - I thought you wanted to play match play on the Friday??

errr we are,Friday aint up for discussion really, its Saturdays format.
If one game does finish out in the country in your corporate days dont the 2 guys whos game is done get a bit bored? It's not like they can influence the other game in their last 7 holes is it?

I'll explain again - each player plays 2 singles matches - one against each of the other 2 - so each player could have 2 wins, 2 losses, 1 win/1 loss, 1 win/1 half, 1 loss/1 half, 2 halfs....

So A and B are playing Y and Z....

A plays Y and Z in 2 singles matches
B plays Y and Z in 2 singles matches
Y plays A and B in 2 singles matches
Z plays A and B in 2 singles matches

Not wishing to be picky BUT at 8pm SS2 suggested Stableford and then you suggested Match Play for Friday, so I thought you wanted to discuss it....

Don't care what you play as long as England win!!!

I like dodger's format as it gives everyone an interest through to the last hole on Saturday whilst promoting both team AND individual play. Everyone should probably also get to play with two partners over the 2 days which should make for some good banter! Sounds like a winner to me.

Bring it on!

Come on the nation that brought the world the deep-fried strawberry smoothie! Delicious and nutritious.

Just a thought from one of the English side thats going.

I think we need to keep it as pure as possible therefore would go with Dodgers suggestion.

The 4 ball matchplay on Friday and stableford on Saturday seems the best format.

Should the 4 ball matchplay not be full difference from the lowest handicap player in accordance with R&A guidelines.

Don't want the English lads to have any excuses when they get a tanking ;) ;)

Dodger,

Sorry mate but I've forgotten already what hole it was you said I was to wait at then run on and nick all the English balls?

£30 payment per day, yip I'm happy with that.

You can let me know if you want me to go to plan B but thats £1000 per head! And my flight to Brazil.

EGU directive is 3/4 diff taken from lowest man.

The team stableford better ball on Saturday is also played with each team member receiving 3/4 of their hcp but they will receive their full allowance for the individual card.

If everyone thinks the formats are good I suggest we go with them.

Long range forecast predicting light winds and temp in the high 70's...
