The society has an annual 'international' venue, formerly France & Belgium, this year Ireland (Cork) and has already decided that next year shall be Scotland, more specifically, Inverness area.

We're into early planning so we need some suggestions for courses in the area; 12 - 16 golfers; we shall be flying up, so a reasonable distance from the airport and ideally adjacent accommodation.

Thanks in advance

What is The Society?

How many days golf?

Within an hour of the Inverness area you'd be looking at the following in rough priority, and providing green fees are not an issue -

Royal Dornoch
Castle Stuart
Nairn
Spey Valley
Boat of Garten
Moray Old
Tain
Brora
Nairn Dunbar
Fortrose and Rosemarkie

Dozens of other good tracks but IMO these are the best in the area within 1 hour of Inverness. Brora might be just over an hour, can't remember.

There are 2 or 3 courses in Inverness itself but none are anything special.

Lots of accomodation around inverness. Thistle Hotel is nothing fancy (3 star) but quite handy for airport. Airport is a good 15 mins from Inverness.

The Society is the Golfing arm of the company Sports and Social Club; The Rocketeers, since we make missiles. It's been going some years now.

The Irish trip in September (which I can't make) is Thursday - Monday, so I would expect this to be the same.

I think the organisers are hoping for on course accommodation, which is what they are doing this year.

I live in Inverness!!!

New to golf tho so haven't played many courses. As you can see I'm a member of Inverness Golf Club which I'm very fond of. It's easy to play but would challenge all players.

Loch Ness is also in Inverness (I used to be a member) but is not very well looked after and I would not recommend it.
As for the final Inverness course, Torvean, I've played it once a while ago and found it okay.

I've played Fortrose and it was alright but I imagine could be horrible on a nasty weathered day. Boat of Garten is short but tight and pretty well kept.

Royal Dornoch, Castle Stuart, Nairn, Spey Valley, Brora, Nairn Dunbar, I haven't played but all have excellent reputations, these are probably the best in the area infact.

As for oncourse accomodation? I think it will be scarce to say the least. The nicest hotels in Inverness are Kingsmills and New Drummosie. Others, however, such as the Thistle, Craigmonie etc. are possibly less luxurious but more accesible.

Hopes this helps, and if you have any questions don't dally in asking :)

One course that hasn't been mentioned yet, but is on my list to play is Cullen. A wee bit further along the course, but having been there (not played), it looks a wee gem.

Check these couple of sites out for more info on the area as well.

And for accommodation, if you want to stay in Nairn (with two very very good golf courses - one with widely regarded the best greens in Scotland) then check out the Golf View Hotel. It's under new ownership and is right on the beach with pool, tennis courts etc.
