Not sure if everyone has seen this before, but thought it may be useful to some.
Ive just downloaded a Demo copy of 'Scorecard', which is a fantastic little program to assist you in seeing exactly what part of your game is strong or weak, and what you should work on perhaps.
I have absolutely no affilliation to them I can assure you, but for £16 approx, I think it could be the best £16 you can spend if you're serious about your Golf ! :)

http://cynicalpeak.com/scorecard/

It even has a simply scorecard you can print off to take out on the course with you, which lets you mark where you went on the fairway, GIR, Sand saves, U& D, and no of putts etc etc. Brilliant.
Then when you finish, you imput it all into the PC, and it gives you all your percentages for everything.

Here's a link to someone's stored scores, I think he's the developer: http://web.me.com/iacas/Scorecard/

Another £16 for Golfers to spend on something they do not really need.

All this does is produce (through the golfers input) something any golfer should know or can work out for themselves.

I am certain there will be many golfers with money to waste rushing off to buy this one lol.

Have to say I bought scoresaver2 (£35 but SS2 on here will give you a discount code) which I have to say has been a great help. The beauty of this over and about the wealth of statistical information it provides (which is more in depth than any other product I've seen) is that it allows you to record your practice sessions and your lessons. This means you can review how much you have been working on particular areas of your game and review any notes you made. If you had a great practice session and were doing something specific which worked you can review this and add it back in.

Similarly if you have lessons you can make notes of any drills/comments you worked with the pro on and use this as a tool for working on your swing at a later date.

I have to disagree with herb. I have found this a great tool for recording all my rounds this year and highlighting areas of weakness. I was averaging 36.3 putts per round at the start but after seeing this on my stats it became clear it was a particular flaw. Before then I knew I wasn't the worlds greatest putter but assumed it was around the 30-33 mark. However since working on that I am now averaging a heathly 31 putts per round.

I know the scoresaver has received a thumbs up from a number of golfers on here and they all feel that it has helped their game. Herb may be in a comfort zone where all is good with his game but for the likes of me who has struggled all year, I like to be able to see why I'm going up handicap wise as opposed to down

I started using Scoresaver this year. Its easy to use and gives good info (depending on how thorough you are at inputing it !)

It gives an easy way to look at your stats over the year.

I understand what people are saying but I dont understand why recording your own data without paying for an aid is seemingly a non-option.

All the info suggested can be found easily by typing it into search :D

herb,

Not sure what you mean by typing all the info into search. Where do you type it?

I think the beauty of htese pieces of software, especially scoresaver is that it gives you a set of target parameters based on your handicap which you should be aiming for. For example off my 15 handicap it says I should on AVERAGE be making 34 putts per round and hitting 42% of fairways. Obviously this can be tweaked manually and does reduce the lower the handicap. It also gives me a raft of figures and I can drill down and compare perfomances over a month, a quarter, a season or over a period of years.

It shows me my perfomances round by round, giving me info on 8 key stat areas. In essence the one stop statistical analysis software and in my opinion a necessary tool. It also allows you to download reports to give to your pro so that lessons can be structured around weak points in your game. For example if you are struggling in the par scramble category it would suggest that the short game may need attention and your pro can see this and review future performance and gauge improvement.

Last year when I was using my old pro before he moved out of the area I had a series of lessons (went down from 20-13) and then booked a lesson every 6 weeks or so during the season. A few days before each lesson I'd e-mail my reports and we'd have a quick chat and work on the things he saw as being wrong. That meant we may spend 30 minutes on putting and another on swing mechanics with irons if my GIR was looking iffy. In short a tailor made fix to my golfing problems

Interesting idea. Now although it looks good;

But firstly I don't pay for anying via the net I see it as too much of a risk.

Secondly, the price was in dollars & I certainly don't deal in any forign currancy. As the price quoted is $29

With so many free bits of softwar available to download, what's the point of paying for something that does the same thing. And if I were to buy some software it would be from a golf shop or other high street shop.

Scoresaver is a UK site and the guy who runs it is a regular forum member so in a way he is one of us. It is a one off hit and you then get any new upgrades. Also it is a PC based system that can be downloaded and you can then save and back it up. The price quoted ont he website is in £.

There is even a free trial download so you can give it a go. Not sure why the negative vibe about buying stuff off the internet, especially from reputable sites but as hapless says, each to their own. My only advice would be don't knock it until you have tried. it. give the free demo a go and then see how you feel. A lot of happy users on the forum

Seconded Homer.

For the guys who haven't tried the Scoresaver2 software..why not give the free trial a go. It's the best stats software I've seen for golfers...with the added bonus that it's creator (SS2) is a forum member who we've actually met and played golf with. Plus he's more helpful than a helpful thing on national helpful day.

I doubt it could be easier than Scorecard......have any of you taken a look ?

As for paying, well, people fork out shed loads of money for the latest 'go-further Driver', whats £16ish for something that could really help you get down ??

Each to their own as you say.

Yes I've had a look at the link you gave. It's an American product, not the greatest of graphics, but, it seems to do the business. What do you do as regards Slope Rating for a UK course ? Just curious. Not having a pop here.

DCB: I've not bothered with the Slope Rating, doesnt matter as far as I can see. I'm only bothered with the info it can provide as far as GIR, left/right fairway misses, Putt, U&D etc etc.

Very easy bit of software, but like I said, I have no affilliation, so take your choice.

If the SlopeRating makes no difference then it looks like a reasonable package. I went for the Scoresaver after various recommendations on here. I had an old package with naff graphics etc which wouldn't run on a new pC so wanted something simple and easy to use. The one you've highlighted would have been of interest if I'd not got one already.

It's the info you get from it which shows where you need to improve that's so important.

I am just coming to the end of my months trial with scoresaver 2 and will be purchasing it once it ends. It is by far the most professional and easy to use piece of golf score recording software I have found. I love being able to create reports about how your game currently is with different strengths and weaknesses highlighted.

I used to extol the virtues of Stats4golf as it was free and web-based. However, they never responded to an email and after a number of months of using it, it got so slow to use that it became pointless.

I had a go a SS2 on the trial and instantly saw why it was so much better. Andy on here has been fabulously helpful and not in the least bit pushy for his product. He even tells me they are working on a web-based backup system for your data (which was my main stumbling point), although I am coping fine so far using Store & Share to export my data to in the event of hardware failure.

For me, being able to see what my handicap standard on areas is has made a huge difference to my mindset on the course. Quality product and definitely worth a look for free.
