Had a real horror show in the monthly stableford scoring a "massive" 30 points. I started OK but three putted 2 and 4 which didn't help. The problem was I had one of those days when everything felt off. The timing was out, the swing felt too long and loose and I couldn't guarantee if I was going to hit left or right on any given shot.

My chipping was much better following the lesson yesterday but my putting was erratic especially on the front nine. However I'll be back especially after the par 5 last. Hit a crap drive right, a poor second just onto the fairway. Took a hybrid to try and hit it up towards the green but short of the pond guarding the right hand side. Hit another crap shot and thinned it and it was heading right into bandit country but hit the only big tree and ricocheted across the fairway into the light rough.

I'm now playing 4 from 200 yards away and decided he who dares and took my 5 wood to take the green on. Hit it great but got a bit of draw and missed just short of pin high, short sided and about 15 yards left. The patio was pretty packed and I decided that rather than just pop it on and two putt for 7 (net 6) I'd try the high lob shot my coach had me working on. Opened up the 58 degree and took a commited swing. It roase like and eagle, landed like a butterfly, took a hop forward, rolled and dropped. Cue the applause from the gallery and just a par on the card!

Well done Homer, I bet you walked into the bar with a spring in your step - a lesson in 'its not how, but how many'!

My lob shot would have had the patio running for cover to avoid a bruised shin..

Great chip in Homer! :D It's always a great feeling to end the round on a high.

I really enjoy playing the flop/lob shot (even when I completely thin it through the green), but I always have trouble guesstimating the distance and run I will get. Would you by any chance have any tips of just how short to pitch the ball?

Thanks

Nice one Homer , thats when having the gallery watching is a bonus. I hope there was a beer or two waiting for you when you arrived at the bar ;)

Did anyone shout 'Get in da hole Homer' ;)

Nice play, it's always great to end on a high. In a similar way to how gut wrenching it is to end with a double!

Richard,

Sadly your cyniciscm is misplaced. It happened as described and to the delight of around 30 people including the ladies team (not a looker amongst them) and those enjoying a pint after their stableford event. I guess the practice I put in after my chipping lesson worked and I've now got the courage to try that shot more often which will help no end.

Homer as my smiles explained i was only joking, and probably jealous of your exploits, congrats on your shot and it is an example to us all that the hard work and practise that we all put in through lessons etc has its rewards!!!.
