I've heard that supermarkets, specifically Tesco, are obliged to accept money off coupons from customers regardless of whether the customer is actually buying the specified product or not.

Can anyone confirm this to be true?

If so i'm taking a pair of scissors to my magazines. Could definitely save people a few quid.

I know a lady that takes every voucher she can into Tesco and they never refuse to accept them regardless of item bought.

No they are not 'obliged' to accept any coupon. They do as it's 'good customer relations', and generally don't sort through cut-out coupons due to the time it takes.

If you take in a bundle they are within their rights to refuse the lot. And to be really pedantic, you could be liable if you make a false claim.
