This is probably a stupid question BUT is there a difference between a 56 wedge and a 56 purpose built SW? New to the game as some will know so always asking
Most of the time from what I know its the bounce that varies.
The bounce is the angle at which the bottom of the club face sits up from the ground. Usually the purpose built SW in sets have a higher bounce. It does depend on which set you buy though.
cheers, only asking as I notice some folk have various wedges including a 56* so was asking if thats the way to go instead of the stock SW that came with the iron set.
As others have pointed out already, it's not only the bounce that counts. But also 'feel'.
My 'stock' SW has been replaced with a 56. Simple reason being 1) I was given it. 2) my stock SW (the one that came with the iron set), was to chunky for my liking and had no feel to it. Consequently it got ditched.
I have tried different wedges to my stock wedge but get on much better with a matched set.
My MX200's came 4-PW and I purchased the matching 50 and 55's to go with them and love 'em.
As Hapless points out, it boils down to preference.
