Watching Sky's coverage the PGA and they report that the amateur player Le Chaempe (or something like that) apparently has his clubs made with the same length shaft and they are marked with the loft rather than numbered.

Good idea - or not?

I can see some advantages with swing mechanics but I'd find it a bit !

Nobody else does it and the brand of clubs which tried it in the 80s or 90s soon stopped. I think that speaks volumes.

No doubt the lad Bryson DeChambeau is a great golfer and could beat any of us with one arm tied behind his back, but if it was really a great idea, somebody else would be doing it. His driver, 3 wood and hybrid are not the same length as each other, interestingly.

I suspect he won't be doing it when he turns pro unless he goes with a wired niche brand. No major brand is going to allow him to play equal length clubs when they don't plan to market any.

My understanding is that the companies who have tried it in the past have not weighted the clubs the same so Bryson DeChambeau are unique. He is training to be an engineer I believe so a fair bit of thought has gone into his clubs.

You might note that he also uses ultra jumbo grips and holds the clubs through his palms. You will also see a lot of Moe Norman in his swing.

I love that he is going his own way. I hope it keeps working out for him!

A guy at our club has some Tommy Armour irons (I think), which are all the same length. Has tried to change, but can't find anything he hits as well...so stay with them. They are all 6 iron length
