Our Pro has just had one installed and I'm thinking of having a session on it, putting not being the strongest area of my game.
Anyone used one, any points to look out for etc?

... be prepared to by a new putter.... you may find your existing one doesn't match your stroke :p

to be fair - i had a SAM lesson last year and it's revolutionised my putting, a couple of simple set up fixes, but I'm not sure they'd have been identified without it.. also I wasn't closing the blade of an toe hang anser style putter quick enough so a new face balanced putter followed fairly sharpish!

I've used it, it's a brilliant tool if used correctly. It will definitely help you in understanding what causes different misses with the putter. It spits out a lot of numbers, for some people it's actually too much. The pro needs to be able to convey to you what really matters, otherwise it can get messy. A bit like TrackMan.

It does give you lots of information about your stroke........speed, angle of attack, face contact, swing path etc etc
What it doesn't do is tell you how to fix the bits that are wrong.

My recent experience http://forums.golf-monthly.co.uk/showthread.php?88405-First-ever-putter-fitting

Very informative, I found. It told me my aim was 99% & that I had a very strong arc, therefore face balanced putters are a no no & I need a putter with lots of toe hang. (four putters currently for sale on EBay & awaiting arrival of one! ). Also showed that, at impact, the face was pointing consistently left of target, which makes sense because, whenever I miss a short putt, I always miss on the left.

My advice would be to have a session, get a suitable putter then work on your stroke to correct any errors it highlights. Then go back & have another session. Well worthwhile.

Ian teaches in a pretty simple fashion, so hopefully he can interpret the data for me and point me in the right direction, without me getting too confused.

Thanks for the insights

probably the single biggest difference to my game. I'd say i dropped 3 shots off my handicap over night.

I am also interested in going to a Sam putting lab to analyse my stroke! Has anyone got any recommendations for somewhere good in the Midlands area? I'm from Staffordshire!

I'm at Kedleston park golf club in Derby (the websites in my signature).

I have a Sam putt lab session booked next week

New putter and work on that and nothing else all winter is the key to improving next year for me
And I can stay out the cold

It's fantastic

Had a session at Celtic manor which certainly helped me. It reinforced a few things I thought I was good at and convinced me to buy a new scotty 😀. Putting has definitely improved since. As always the session depends upon a good pro to interpret data and getting out there to practice.

Possibly Keith Williams Hawkstone Park. I say possibly as in I had lessons with Keith when he was based at Woodhall and he had one then. I've not seen Keith in 5yrs, but is an excellent coach.
The other system is Quintec which actually videos the roll of the ball as well as giving data. Both systems are good, what one has the other doesn't so it depends what you want.

Thanks. Beau Desert is about 20-25 minutes away for me so I may look at this. Is Mike Beaumont a good pro? A major thing for me is the coaching quality alongside the technology!

Mike is a top bloke with some very good players under his belt. he usually uses his SAM in his little shed with a putting surface then takes the practice to the putting green.
