Saint Teresa of Calcutta

As more Pastafarian inclined, I'm not normally into such awards - and my Kirk devoted Gran might make a spin or 2 in her grave - but if anyone deserves such an award, it's Mother Teresa!

Seems a pretty popular decision!

I get that she's been made a saint, but re the rest of your post & maybe life in general, do you find you 'lose' a lot of people in conversation? I've no idea what pastafarian or kirk is?

This is a little like honours for Olympians. Marvellous woman, incredibly kind and giving, saint capable of miracles.......... She doesn't need to be called a Saint to be remembered as a fine human being.

A vile woman made a saint by a vile organisation. Her views on pain and suffering were barbaric and her stance on abortion defies any decency.

It's always hard in the current climate to take the church seriously

The Catholic Church are one of the richest organisations in the world , full of corruption and massive of cases of disgusting behaviour towards children so when they claim someone a saint I find it hard to take it seriously

Surely for someone to be claimed a saint it must come from the people - if the people who she saved or helped etc believe her to be a saint then that for me will do but not when the church make the claim

Hard to see a clear right or wrong here. Cleat.y there was a lot of good done by Mother Teresa in the Calcutta slums and elsewhere but as others have said, there are also some views she had that make it hard to see how she can be made a saint.

The claim does come from the people, it's from them then the church investigated the claims, can you show any evidence of the corruption it's full of please, totally agree it needs to be open and honest about the sex abuse claims and all them guilty brought to justice
Don't think any religion is beyond reproach these days.
Lot's of people find comfort in religion and their beliefs and good on them.

So, she was nominated by the woman who she cured of stomach cancer?

Perhaps they should have made her a Consultant and not a Saint. Absolute load of tosh for me, as is all religion

She didn't even cure her when she was alive. She claims it was a picture of Mother Teresa (after her death) that she laid on her stomach that cured her.

It's a wonder why millions are being spent by cancer charities if all it takes is an A4 picture of MT.

Was watching a film the other day about the church/ ministers abusing kids in the Boston area ( USA ) excellent film to watch, with a disturbing story. However at the end of the film there was a list of all of the places throughout the world on every continent where child abuse by the church was rife. It was on a massive scale and truly disgusting to read. When you see and read that, then hear of the good word the church is trying to spread, well let's just say the church has a hell of a lot of bridges to build.

They knew about it as well and chose to ignore it which really annoys, it wasn't restricted to Catholics either.
